Bergen County.

CWJones411,

I tried calling the Academy yesterday, but I just got a long list of menus to choose from and I had no idea which one to choose.

The maze of menus... I won't attempt it. I'll ask my High School counselor who my district ALO is. I guess we'll hear when we hear. What were your stats?

My scores total are in the 1600's. But I am determined to get them higher. Hopefully what helps me is my class rank, athletics, and xc. I hate standardized testing. What were yours?

Well I haven't taken the SAT or ACT yet, but I did take the PSAT. My scores were 65 CR, 68 Math, 60 Writing for a total of 193. My class doesn't rank so I didn't put one down since the only way of even estimating it would be to put my GPA at the end of sophomore year up against the current senior class's GPAs at the end of junior year. This estimation would be further skewed by the fact that the current senior class at my school has been the best in 15 years. But for my ECs I put Boy Scouts, near Eagle rank, a sport or job every season, EMT, Church School Teacher, German Club Officer, German National Honor Society, Physics team, etc, etc... I know some people with slightly lower test scores are getting interviews so I hope that my slightly higher test scores will make up for the competitive region I live in.

wow congrats on your scores. I wish I had your scores. I've played 3 varsity sports in high school: girls' tennis, basketball, and cross country. I'm in national honor society, S.A.D.D., and alot of community serve especially in my church. I rank 5/118 and a 4.0 gpa. Hopefully this will make up for my poor PSAT scores. Good Luck to you, hopefully we'll find out soon whether or not we've been accepted.

Yeah, hopefully. Unfortunately I haven't gotten a varsity letter yet but I'm hoping to get one this spring in track though my school is pretty athletically competitive. Oh well, sucks to live in NJ!

Turns out my ALO does want an interview after all, he just hadn't called yet; after I called him he returned my call and I am meeting him Thursday night. Sounds like a nice guy, hopefully it will go well.

Okay. I'm the last one.

CW- Have you tried calling your ALO?

Not yet....

I called today and left a message requesting the phone number of my ALO.

I have scores close to yours wafflebear, 1600 (soooooo bad), hope to do better. I rank 15/200 in my class. XC captain and letter winner. I have also lettered in golf since grade 8. NHS, Youth Court Attorney, Model UN bad ass lol. I hope my good grades, sports, and activities will make me stand out.

SAT, SAT, SAT. Work on getting those scores up or you will be classified "non-competitive". No quality of grades, class standing, or EC's can compensate for SAT scores in the low 500's. Work on SAT prep just like it was one of your scheduled classes. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice RTB- sometimes we get all caught up in extracurriculars we forget about the dreaded standardized testing

My counselor just found out who my ALO is, and when I submitted my application for SS I wasn't in contact with my ALO. I haven't heard back yes or no yet, but does the fact that I did it myself without my ALO matter?

Some go into the SS having done their interview, some don't.

well i found this place a few days ago, been reading some of the threads and finally thought i'd say something on this one to those of you worried about your SAT scores (by the way i've been accepted to the class of 2011): there's one other senior from my high school going to a military academy, and he's going to west point. he also applied to usafa, but his SAT's weren't good enough for him to get in (not really sure how they were then good enough for west point. actually i have a pretty good idea but i'll be nice :)), whereas my scores were good enough that my ALO told me that basically i was in just on those. obviously thats not entirely true, i still have very good extracirricular, athletic, etc. activities, but my point is DONT OVERLOOK THE SAT/ACT! the guy going to west point was off the charts in athletic, extracirricular, leadership, and community activities but it didn't matter compared to his academics, and his SAT scores severely hurt his chances. sorry i dont know what his scores actually were, or this post might be more helpful!

So i have a very strong feeling that USAFA will start sending out acceptances to summer seminar this week, maybe because I called a few weeks ago and they said they wont start sending htem out until the middle of February.

Let's hope so...
