SSAT Score Recipients

Hi there!

I am applying to Exeter, Lawrenceville, Andover, Hotchkiss, and Choate for the year 2017. I will be taking my first SSAT in the beginning of June, should I add my schools as recipients at the SSAT website? Or should I wait till I take my final SSAT. Another problem I have is that I can not seem to add Andover as a recipient even though their website says they are a SSATB

Thanks!

No. Don’t. The June scores won’t be eligible to be submitted with your application.

Thanks

Also, you will want to see your results before sending them to the schools.

I was under the impression that you could not add recipients after the test was taken, I am very glad to be wrong. Could I send multiple scores to them?

(1) you should definitely wait until after the score is in to report; there is no rush as they won’t even start looking at your file until next December
(2) I’m not sure about the statement above that June results can’t be reported; I believe one year of scores are now “live” (new this past application cycle)
(3) yes, you can send in multiple reports if you are trying to SuperScore

While you may be able to report June results, I think many schools specify that they want the SSAT to be taken in the academic year of the admissions cycle.

You’ve targeted some very selective schools yet have not taken an SSAT yet?

So what happens if you get a 70%-tile score (which is well under what would be considered a “target” score for those schools) when you finally take it?

Thank you a lot

The timeline for taking the SSAT & reporting changed this past cycle (applying for fall 2016). Spring tests from 2015 were able to count for applications at most schools. A few kids at DS school sent their “practice test” scores from June. My kids always waited to get scores before sending them to schools.

wait, so if I am applying for the fall of 2017, my June 11, 2016 SSAT scores count? I’m just worried because I dont want to take the SSAT again, and I got a 2352 on the June one

Most schools have taken the June test in the past but check with each specific school to confirm that they will this year.

  1. Officially you need to take SSATs within the academic year that you are applying. That's August 1 2016 - July 31 2017. Whether a school is willing to make an exception is a question that would be school-specific. I don't think this is a new rule as we were told to wait last year.
  2. There is absolutely no reason to set up schools in advance of testing as automatically getting scores. Most kids don't take these tests until the October/November time frame, with December and even January as back-ups if the first test doesn't go well. In fact, at this time of year, most schools don't even have active applicant files. You can add or subtract schools in the future as your plans change.
  3. Other than test familiarity and practice, there's no reason at all to take the test prior to these dates. Most schools do not care--even though some might ask the question in interviews--until they are reviewing the application in February.
