I took the SSAT and got my scores back; I scored into the 71 percentile. I thought I did fairly well, however my parents think the opposite. So… is the 71 percentile a good score or not? Could I please have someone’s opinion?
It all depends on which schools you’re applying to. Sometimes schools list the median score/percentile of the people who get in, so if your scores are not very close to that median score, you might want to retake. Don’t feel bad about retaking, though. A LOT of kids will retake the test, myself included.
It depends which school you’re applying to, I guess.
Ok, thank you
If you’re shooting for high tier schools (Ten Schools) then a score in the high 80’s, low 90’s seems to be the threshold where they stop worrying about your ability to perform. I believe Exeter has the highest mean SSAT (which is around 95th percentile) if I’m not mistaken.
But there are plenty of schools who would love someone with a 71st percentile. Keep in mind that the SSAT score is only a small factor of what schools look at.
It is all relative when it comes to determining whether or not your SSAT scores are “good” or “bad”. Also, if it helps, I got into a top 10 school even though I scored into the 73 percentile in math. SSAT scores are not the only thing schools look at. Aside from your standardized test scores, essays, grades, reccomendations, extra curriculars, and your interview are all carefully considered in the admissions process. Scores aren’t everything. Most school recognize that some students struggle more with standardized testing than others do! Feel free to pm me with any questions about the admissions process!
What schools are you applying to?
It also depends on what else you have to offer!
