SSAT Verbal Prep (Synonyms & Analogies)

Hello,

Could experienced folks please suggest a good resource to master SAT Verbal Prep.

We are working on the vocabulary but need help on strategies for Synonyms & Analogies.

thanks so much!

@zbuffalo12 I would definitely suggest going extremely hard on quizlets while you have the time. There are a lot of really good quizlets out there with words I actually encountered on the test. Reviewing and adding onto these flashcards everyday for about a month and a half really helped me do well on it and get the percentile I wanted to.

Furthermore, I would also suggest buying a prep book specifically for the SSAT. There are a lot of really great informational ones that you can easily find online. The ones I used were Mometrix’s and Barron’s Upper Level Test Prep Books. Hope this helps!

Oh and I forgot about analogies, my apologies. For the analogies, I simply just used practice tests online and the tips the books provided me. What really helped for me was building a strong vocabulary, as some of the words were unknown to me at the time, and knowing the kinds of connections the words usually have between each other. There are also some really good YouTube videos that helped me that you can simply find by searching up “SSAT Analogies”

I also recommend quizlets vocabulary. Also DS did practice exercises and tests on Test Innovators and SSAT… Any words in the reading/verbal sections that he didn’t know we added to the vocab list. We studied vocab every day for about a month and increased verbal by 20+ percentile points.

In addition to what everyone’s said so far, I also crammed a bunch of vocab in general with quizlets (already mentioned) and this other website I personally found pretty helpful- vocabulary.com. It’s kinda like quizlet learn, but IMO, has a more streamlined and helpful approach with vocab learning. It also generates multiple-choice synonym questions like the ones found on the SSAT, although with only four answer choices.

You could search for SSAT word lists on that website, although what I did was enter 8-10 words from Barron’s upper-level SSAT vocab list onto a list every day and review them all day until I got to “100% proficiency” on those words according to the website. Then I’d add those words onto all the previous days’ lists so I could review the old and new words mixed together.

Also, I had reviewed latin+greek roots and stuff, although I don’t think that helped much to be honest.

After rereading my post I just realized I sound like some paid ad. oof.

How was your experience with Testinnovators? How did your DS
do on the test and compare it to Testinnovators practice test results?
Testinnovators has list of 300 vocabulary. Did your DS find it useful?
Quizlet is full with many lists. Any particular ones you (and others) recommend?
Thanks!
