I know that SSP is not as prestigeous and well-known as RSI, but, if anyone knows the number of SSP participants rejected from MIT, please post.

Also, who else from CC is applying to SSP this year?

Also, who else from CC is applying to SSP this year?

I don't know anything about SSP alums admitted/acepted at MIT, but SSP is an excellent program. One of my students attended a couple of years ago and had a great experience.

Ooook...i got that part
ty texas

so, is anyone applying there this year?

yes i have applied already for the early round...although i may not be of much interest to you since i am an international...

and well according to matt mcgann SSp shows equal level of commitment as RSI. The applicant pool is less because its only about astronomy and RSI is for everything...but obviously RSI is more competitive...Yet I can say specifically about MIT but from SSP usually all alumni go to top schools like MIT,stanford, caltech or ivies..The few who dont go to these schools are internationals who stay in their oown country and study..

vampiro, good luck your application to SSP! I went to SSP Socorro in 2004 as a rising junior and really enjoyed it.

I don't quite agree with you that ALL alums go to Ivy-tier schools, although they certainly do all go to excellent institutions. In my year, of the ~30 rising seniors, 2 went to Harvard, 4 went to MIT, 2 went to Princeton, 2 went to Columbia, 2 went to Stanford. The rest went to lesser known universities, such as the Claremonts, RPI, etc. So I'd say the Ivy turnout with SSP alums is more like 1/3-1/2 rather than all.

Needless to say, though, it's still an excellent and prestigious program. I attended RSI the summer after SSP and thought both were good experiences, although RSI has more longlasting benefits, like a much stronger alumni association and the long term research connections that you establish there.
