St. Andrews American Applicants - Class of 2025

I’ve been looking at The Student Room for St. Andrews and it looks like they have been sending out rejections. Has anyone heard anything?

Portal isn’t loading for me

Still no word of a rejection or acceptance. I applied in December and this isn’t the first time they have forgotten to provide me with the information I need regarding my application information. I don’t really want to email them to make sure my application was missed (gotta love anxiety, am I right?), but my parents are really hounding me to make a decision on the colleges I’ve been accepted to. Been trying to hold them off until I got a response from them, but they’re getting impatient. Anyone know when they’re sending their last decisions? Honestly don’t care if it’s a rejection at this point. Just need closure. lol

Which subject did you apply for? I would email and ask politely when you might be receiving a response.

I applied as an IR and Spanish major. Considering other people that have applied to that major have already heard back with acceptances and people are saying rejections are coming out next week, I’m assuming I got rejected, but I’d still like know, ya know? Also I’m scared to email them because I’m anxious that I’ll come off as pushy.

I applied Jan 1 for compsci & economics and also havent heard yet!!

Really wishing you great vibes! This anticipation is killing me!

I wouldn’t hesitate to email them. If anything, it shows your interest in St. Andrews

I wouldn’t assume that. IR is very competitive and they receive a large number of applications for that subject. Also because you’re applying to 2 subjects both departments need to review your application. I believe St. A is on spring break right now and hopefully the professors continue to review apps over break.

I know it’s tough for your parents but US schools don’t require a deposit until May 1. Worse case scenario you could place a deposit at your top choice US school and then withdraw if you are accepted to St. Andrews. The downside is you forfeit your deposit. This might be worth considering if your US school require housing deposits or has other programs or events you can’t register for until you commit. If there’s no such benefit then I’d sit tight and ask your parents to please be patient.

So since they’re on spring break, you don’t recommend I send an email? Also thank you so much for this response. It really helped calm my nerves!

best of luck to you too!!

They’re on break until April 5th. It’s hard to imagine they just stop reading applications those 2 weeks but it could be. If you can stand it  maybe wait and send your email the 5th.

if u do email, def lmk what they say!!

I will! Gonna let them get off of their spring break and then email them! But I’ll come find you again!

Has anyone received a email from admissions indicating you are being considered for an alternative course other than the one to which you applied?

Did you? That seems very odd since the department(s) of the subject(s) you apply for are reading your application and making the admit decision(s).

Yes, my daughter received a rejection for the course to which she replied and they indicated they were considering her for an alternative course.

Honestly didn’t know they did that! I’m sorry your D didn’t get her first choice. Would she consider the alternative subject? Also since she can take 2 other subjects along with the one she’s admitted to, there’s some flexibility as to what you ultimately major in. My D’s close friend went in with IR and Psych and dropped IR after her first year.

Thank you. She is still very excited at the prospect of attending and is open to alternative courses in the Faculty of Arts; she had gone back and forth a bit when she originally chose, so she is flexible. We’ll keep fingers crossed!

It happens most often with joint courses, or courses where there is overlap with another course. I’ve seen it most with joint History subjects.
