St. John's or Fordham

Hey I am coming from California and I have pretty much narrowed down my choices to Fordham and St. John's. I recently went on an overnight visit to St. John's and really enjoyed my time there. It has a lot of positives, one being that it has my desired major of sports management, it is in a good location, has good basketball program (i'm a big sports fan), and solid academics. Fordham, I realize has a better academic reputation, but doesn't have a sports management major. I was accepted into the business program. I spent about ten days this past year at Fordham's campus in the dorms at a summer program and enjoyed my stay there as well, but didn't really get a sense of what it is like during the school year because there were no students on campus at the time. I believe it is in a better location than St. John's because there is more to do around campus and is closer to Manhatten. St. John's is in a residential area and there isn't much to do in the surrounding city.

Somebody please help me to decide. Tell me what you think. Any opinions are appreciated.

I would find out if St. John’s is largely a suitcase or commuter school. Since you’re coming from Calif, you may find yourself alone a lot on nights and weekends.

What other schools did you apply to?

Is cost an issue?

Let me assure you that your Fordham degree will be more valuable. Sports management is a subset of business. Fordham’s CBA is awesome and the education is supplemented by Jesuit ethics and ethos. Fordham is VERY well connected in the New York sportsbroadcasting and sports management areas. You will have NO PROBLEM getting an awesome internship while at Fordham.

Duuring the school year, Fordham’s campus is alive and vibrant. We just hired Tom Pecora from Hofstra for basketball. Our football team is on a roll and our quaterback who is graduating is expected to be picked in the NFL draft this year.

I am glad you liked St. John’s. But its a much bigger commuter school than you realize. Fordham is by far the better choice.

I am a grad student at St. Johns and have to agree that there are a lot of commuters. Since I am a commuter, it is fine for me (and I am much older too). But I have heard the college age students’ frustrations.

I would think Fordham would be a better choice for an on campus experience.
