I'm really stuck on St John's University. I have heard SO much about it ... yet there are a handful of people saying it's a joke to get in (which might be actually true because kids with a 1.9 GPA from my school got in with a below average, not up to par SAT's) or terrible, etc ... yet then there are many including it in their top ten, saying it's a pretty strong school. What gives?

What is it that attracts you to St. John’s U?

What will your major be?

Can you afford to go there? Have your parents said that they can pay all the costs to go there?

^What attracts me? Its diversity and the number of majors the college offers. I am probably going to major in Journalism or Communications because writing is certainly one of my major strengths. I’m a writing and vocabulary kind of guy. To answer your third question, I don’t know. I don’t know what the tuition is yet; I haven’t checked. But I still don’t understand why people have completely two different views towards Saint John’s. From “JUST APPLY, YOU’LL GET IN, THUGS WITH LOW IQ’s get in” to “It’s an excellent school and one of the top in NYC”. I want to know the real deal is. Thank you.

The school is basically a commuter school in the middle of Queens. It has a decent reputation and offers great financial aid and merit packages. Over the last few years they’ve increased their merit packages in order to change the negative opinions you mentioned.
