Standardized test scores at Grinnell

I'm applying to Grinnell this year as an incoming international student. I have a question about standardized test scores at Grinnell. I really appreciate your helping me.

I wonder how many percent the college counts on the standardized test when determining candidates, especially international students. My SAT score is not very high compared to the average of the Grinnell students according to previous statistics. So how this would affect my chance of being admitted if I would write a good essay and submit good supp ?

I'm pondering whether to Ed1 or not so your answer will really help me !

Thanks a bunch !

From what they've told me, it's generally around 25%... 50% transcript, 25% scores, 25% essays, recommendations, etc.

According to their website, and it was the same 2 yars ago, this is how Grinnell evaluates an applicant.

50% - high school transcript: GPA, class ranking, grades and rigor of program, and how well you took advantage of the opportunities available to you.

25% - SAT or ACT

25% - based on promise of contribution: extracurricular activities, essay, recommendations and interview (if you had one).

Also, qualified applicants who apply ED do well at gaining admission. According to the website, the overall acceptance rate for the class of 2012 was 35.6%.

From my perspective, academics are first rate and the school is amazing. Our S is getting an excellent education.

They are really interested in qualified international students. I agree with SoCaDad--it's a wonderful school and quite diverse.

Is TOEFL necessary? i've written the SAT reasoning test, and i'm an international applicant from India. also, is there a topic for the essays? there's nothing mentioned in the website.

My son submitted the Common Application so that was his main essay. The Grinnell supplement wanted a short essay answering the question, "Why Grinnell?". At least this was true 2 years ago. I would suggest you give a lot of thought to both essays. Don't know about TOEFL. Don't they say on the website under International Admissions?

I just looked on the website. They require a score of at least 83 (internet-based) or 550 (paper-based) on the TOEFL.
