Just wondering... which is usually more important in deciding whether a student will be rejected or not, GPA or standardized test scores? Right now, I have a very mediocre GPA (around 91.0 on a 100 point scale, with a steady upward trend) and pretty good standardized test scores (800 SATII Bio, 800 SATII Math, 790 SAT II Chem, four 5's and one 4 on AP tests, and a 2310 on the SAT). The thing is, I go to an extremely competitive school (most AP classes = massive grade deflation), and my GPA is very low compared to those of students who go to less competitive schools in my area. Do colleges take the difficulty of your school into account during the admissions process? Also, what aspect (standardized test scores or GPA) has more weight in the admissions process for NYU Stern and CMU? Thanks.

With those SATII scores you could get into a lot of places. There was a kid in my school with a 3.2 GPA, but he had a 2350 on the SAT, and 800 in SATII Math II, 800 in Physics, and 800 in English, and four 5’s and one 4 on his AP tests, and he got into Cornell, Berkeley, UCLA, and Stanford.

Wow really? I never thought that SAT II’s mattered that much. Oh yeah, one more thing. Is it a good thing when a certain college accepts a lot of students from my school? This year, more than 10 people in my school got accepted into NYU.
