Stanford 2008 Transfer

This seems to be going the way of the Yale thread.

…Wow.

That’s a great post there, Ivy. Really makes your personal qualities shine. People will surely be rooting for you and rushing to help next time you start a thread asking for advice on your applications and future endeavors at whichever school accepts you.

Yeah I saw that. I don’t think that affects their transfer spots because they’ve already established that they would maintain a certain number of spots for transfers.

I still don’t understand how the waitlist affects transfer applicants. Stranfers seem to be a pretty independent thing over there.

Just don’t respond to him. Show him his own insignificance by disregarding him.

And yeah, me either. I think they’ll hold the transfer spots regardless of whatever else happens. There’s no way you can wait until May and then decide to revoke more transfer applications because there’s no room. I think a certain number will desert to HY when it’s all said and done.

i’m with you undisclosed. how is it related???

It isn’t about the waitlist. If Stanford is above target and they’re already undergoing a housing crunch that means that they may have fewer spots for transfers. That doesn’t mean that they will have NO spots for transfers, just that they will again admit a very low percentage.

Does anyone dare to call their office and ask how many transfers they accepted this year?

It’s only a dare if you’re offering something in return.

i already did. decisions haven’t been made. why the hell is everyone so afraid to call the admissions office. THEY DON’T KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND DON’T CARE IF YOU CALL. even if they did, it’s likely you won’t get in anyway.

omg ivy transfer! don’t you know??
they have a tracking system and an automatic counting device that counts how many times you called them.
It’s programmed to trash your file if the count goes over 5 :D

exactly majoringbio. finally someone with common sense and a sense of humor

In regards to the NY Times article, there was a recently linked article in the Stanford Daily where it sounded like they’re going to hold open 40 transfer seats. I don’t feel like this changes that.

Friday, 2PM and 107 hours to go.

I called admissions and they said they were planning on accepting 20-40 transfers this year!

20-40 they have not decided yet?

Im planning to apply to transfer next year from a CCC after two years there. However in highschool I never took the SAT, ACT, or any test of that nature. How will that affect my chances? What can I do about it?

You have to take the SAT, it’s a requirement..

@hsinwei: I’ll bet they’ve made most of their decisions, but they’re just adverse to releasing specific numbers.

@creativeport: You can take the SAT now. I think you’re required to submit an SAT score.

Yeah! if they are giving us the results next week, the process should be ending and they already know how many transfers will be accepted

In response to the SUNet posts:

I highly doubt Stanford would make the same mistake twice. The Office of Admissions seems to be rather meticulous.

If they did, and SUNet turns out to be an accurate indicator of admission, then congratulations to all those who were “unofficially” accepted. However I think this loophole seems to be linked to financial aid packages. Accepted transfers who were offered financial aid were entered into the Stanford database before the May 15th deadline. It is questionable whether this trick applies to applicants who did not apply for financial aid, since the Admission Committee would be the only body to enter your id into the database (this is pure speculation*).

*Maybe I’m creating excuses, since my id is not being accepted.

Regarding the number of admitted transfers, it bears repeating that Stanford “planned” to make room for 40 admits. You’ve probably seen the article by now, but if not here it is: [Room to remain for transfers - The Stanford Daily Online](http://daily.stanford.edu/article/2008/4/2/roomToRemainForTransfers)

I guess I’m an optimistic, but the cold hard truth is none of us have a very good chance of being accepted. Maybe this SUNet trick is good for us. Now we can assume we’ve been rejected and when May 15th rolls around we’ll either had time to prepare for the reject or be pleasantly surprised.

Most likely Stanford knows how many transfers they’re accepting. They announced the number on May 11th last year: [1,745 sign with SU - The Stanford Daily Online](http://daily.stanford.edu/article/2007/5/11/1745SignWithSu)

Keep checking the Daily. They should post any day now. If they have a number, they have a list, and if they have a list, they’ve most likely uploaded that list.

Best of luck to everyone,

and Cheers!
