I know this thread is starting a little early, however, I just wanted to get to know some possible transfers and get people who are going through the application process together. I'm at a cc in southern California. Let's get this thread going, I know it'll be epic just from seeing other Stanford transfer threads.

What is up nugness123! I had never really looked at Stanford 'til a couple days ago. After having read the Philosophy and Literature books at my current schools library, Stanford is on my radar, for they have a pretty solid Philosophy and Literature program. After much bouncing around, I think the list of the three schools I am putting in an application for might be set. Brown, Vanderbilt, and Stanford. What about you?

By the by, I hope it becomes epic also!

Hi there Haitian! Well, last fall I was in this English 103 class, which is a critical thinking/writing theory class. I went in to the class actually on the waitlist because I was a freshman. The very first lecture he gave was on the consequences of the technological singularity on society and what it really means to be human. It was the most facinating lecture I ever had in my life! I went up to him after class and told him I would sit on the floor or stand up taking notes all semester if it meant I could stay and take his class. He looked completely shocked and let me in.

That class basically changed my educational goals. I am a political science and philosophy major, mainly dealing with technology and its consequences/implications. And, after a ton of research, I see that Stanford is absolutely THE place for me.

I am also applying to Brown and Cornell. So that is pretty much my story! =)

Nice, Brown is my first pick! However, they are need-based and I need some financial aid. Where do you attend schoo?l I don’t want to say mine, I’ll just say I am in the South haha.

Oh nice nice. Ah yes Brown. Well I’m from College of the Canyons, in southern California. So yeah. As far as I know, Stanford likes cc kids in California, just plain statistically. But I’m so determined to get in. Are you at a cc or a university?

I am currently at a university. Chances are real real real slim for me, but I might as well reach for the stars and have no regrets.

Yeah that is exactly what I’m doing. why are your chances so slim? Grades or just flat out acceptance rate for transfers?

Flat out accpetance rate for transfers! And maybe my grades, though I think a 3.8 is good enough.

Haha yah, acceptance rates for Brown, Stanford ect. aren’t too good. Oh yah? I have a 3.77, so hopefully it’ll be good enough. My story should totally help my chances. Is there anyone on this forum that went from a community college to Stanford or an ivy?

I’m planning on transfering to Stanford as well, but I have a question. How would I go about filling the application for a sophmore level transfer? I mean i haven’t even started college yet but i would like to start this years transfer app to get in as a sophmore. So by the time decisions come out I would only have completed 2/3 of my college year. How would this work? Thanks.

Hmm. Well you could go on commonapp.org and add Stanford. Then start filling stuff out to get the feel of it. However I tried that the beginning of this year for the transfer next year, and the way commonapp does it, is they reset the whole system every summer. So I tried to get on and start filling things out, but I couldn’t really save it, so I copy pasted it onto Microsoft word lol. But at the least, just get an idea of the questions and remember, the journey to your answer is more important than the answer itself :)

I wana just bump this thread. Anyone else out there planning on transfering in the fall of 2012? I’m really curious to know some of the wonderful people I will be applying with.

I will apply. Sad that I couldnt get in the first time around =(… but I won’t give up

Yeah you have to try! What are you at a cc or a university?

University of California Santa Cruz. hoping to apply only after one year.

Awesome. Lol you really set on Stanford too?

My heart burns for it. I know its still a long shot to get in, so if i get denied I will probably go to USC or Berkeley. I think it would look bad if I keep applying to stanford every year I get rejected, so this is the only time i think i can get in. if not then there is always Graduate school at Stanford.

Oh man. Yeah I know that feeling. I realized Stanford is where I belong ay the beginning of this year. Transfer chances are just gnarly but for the very few people like you and me, its enough of a chance to apply. But yeah, that’s what I’ve always figured, if I can’t transfer, then ill be there for graduate school for sure. Honestly I’d be honored to get waitlisted for under grad. That damn farm just beckons.

Hello nugness, Haitian and Rdakker! I am applying transfer too. I come from Austria, and a lot of things in respect of universities are different here. The pull of competitive, inspiring place where people have a passion caught me much too late and I had no time to properly prepare for admission when I graduated from high school. So here is me, a public university hopeful from good ol’ Yurop, trying to get to a place where inspiring people cram the lecture halls and cafeterias instead of hiding one in a 100 or in a 1000 among people who are happy to just get a job and build a nice house.
I know I am painting a dualist image, but to do so doesn’t feel like exaggeration.

I think this thread is nice, because it lets us find each other. We are extraordinary just by the fact that we are working to win against odds of 1 in 50 and we should stay together, loosely connected or really staying in touch, whatever happens with our applications.
What do you think of that?

Apart from that: Let’s just close this thread when we are 25 seeming lunatics, then work really hard on our scores and essays and get in each and every one of us! ;)

I’m a rising sophomore in college and was rejected this past spring as a transfer to stanford. is anyone considering like I am to try again this year? I really would love to go to STanford.
