Stanford 2015 Official Transfer Thread

Yeah, don’t know about that…But I feel you on the UC system. I’m out here in Michigan, and was going to apply to UC Berkeley as second choice, but considering the cost for out of state, and their preference for Cali CC students, I just decided to go with UofM-Ann Arbor as a second choice.

That is funny, because I wanted to apply to Michigan’s business school but the cost is too much for out of state. But their business school is really amazing. What major are you?

I’m majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Physics.

y’all need to give me some tips if ya get in since i’ll be applying as a transfer next year.

Honestly, Stanford would be the perfect fit for me. I could offer so much. I hope putting all my eggs in this basket pays off haha. And yeah! If anyone gets, they should definitely give advice. My only advice is to be yourself. They can see right through fake perceptions

@fleetfeet2016 I’m in the same boat. I totally botched my UC application. It’s looking like Stanford will be my clutch school, and that’s scary. Lol.

@theanaconda Even if anyone here is accepted, I doubt any tips will useful. My impression of Stanford is that if you meet the minimum criteria, and they think you’ll be a net positive to Stanford while fitting within the diversity they seek in a transfer “class”, they’ll let you in.

I really enjoyed Stanford’s application as opposed to Harvard’s. Seeing “what kind of job do you want” as a Harvard application question made me judge negatively their perception of their students and who they want as alumni…

Meanwhile, I think if you put a porn site down as one of the websites you frequent in the Stanford app they’d just appreciate the honesty.

But IDK. May can’t come quickly enough.

The way I see it is this, Stanford looks for a type of person. This can not be faked or immitated. I believe they look more towards who you are than what you are – and that’s the reason their addmissions is so tough. I don’t think anyone who isn’t “right” could make up for it with any number of accomplishments. I have interpreted this to mean that they look for specific attributes akin to what you would expect to find in corny or otherwise ridiculous scenarios. Personally, I focused on how my experiances as a homeless high school student changed my world view – despite earning low-ish grades, I feel that what I learned through education was much greater than what could be taught in a classroom. That’s me and my take on an experiance. I don’t think it is the experiance that was important, but rather, how I reacted to such an experiance, and what I took away from such an experiance – how that experiance helped me to grow into the individual that I am today. So, that’s my interpretation of the addmissions process at Stanford. It’s not a set of things you do to be impressive; it’s an attribute you posses and implement in every point of your life. But what the hell do I know; I’m just a community college student who graduated high school with a 3.0. (I could be totally off base here as well and I havent been granted addmissions or anything like that, nor do I expect too, but somehow, I suspect I’m not too far off in my thinking).

On another note, I’ve recently heard that most UC’s don’t even read personal statements. I was completely shocked when I heard (!). Apparently Berkeley is the only school to take a seriously holistic view of applicants, and even then, they also have the highest academic standards. I’ve always appreciated what private schools have to offer though, I’d love to be accepted to SCU or Pitzer – but, the costs are just crazy expensive! But so is Stanford! (I have no idea where I’m going with this anymore. (lol)). I suppose I’ll end with – Best of luck to everyone! I’m sure anyone who gets in will LOVE their experiance! For those who don’t (probably myself included), I’ve always been told something along the lines of, “it’ll always work out in the end!” And, I’m starting to believe it.

Does anyone have an idea about how many students they’re going to accept this year? They accepted about 100+ more freshman than last year, does that say something about transfer admission?

Maybe they won’t admit any transfers this year, wouldn’t that be sad.

I’m from Brown University, and only applying to Stanford. I know my chances approach zero, but I had to try because I honestly love Stanford.

@arbx10 they admitted 6 more this year (2144). Not sure where you got the 100+ from. I’m guessing ~30 will be admitted this year for transfer.

@BairnOwl I reckon Brown’s pretty good. Don’t feel too bad man, honestly, Brown is one hell of a school. I’m sure many of us wouldn’t mind applying there.

How’s the open curriculum? I’ve heard about it before, but I’m not too sure what it’s all about. I think it sounds really neat – reminds me of the way UCSC used to be.

I would totally be a happier person at S. I can even smell it. My current college oppresses me too much.

@chanceme2014 Wow, yeah. My apologies, must have mixed up the years. I saw a large jump in admissions one of the more recent years…

@fleetfeet2016 Thanks.

The Open Curriculum basically offers you more flexibility in course selection since there aren’t any distribution requirements. You need thirty courses and one major to graduate, that’s all.

It’s not a big deal for me, personally, since I have such varied interests that I would probably fulfil the distribution requirements at any other college anyway. It’s great for people who know exactly how they want to craft their educations, even if the end result is not the typical liberal arts one.

Holy sh*t snacks. BF just got into Berkeley for mechanical engineering. I feel like Stanford might actually not be as much of a pipe dream as we thought, but even if he doesn’t get in, he’s super happy with Berkeley. Stanford is just gonna be that icing on the cake for all his hard work! Good luck to everyone.

@reygun Not to crash hope, but UCs are not that hard to transfer from CCs, compared to the same tier private schools. UCB is a state school, and they always leave a space for CC transfer students. Private colleges don’t. And Stanford is one of the hardest private schools to get in in the entire nation. But congrats to your BF! UCB is a phenomenal institution, and he has nothing to lose even if he doesn’t get into Stanford. But of course, he might as well get into Stanford, and I wish him the best of luck!

@transferringbud We both know how ridiculously comically low the acceptance rate is, and how few spots they offer. Longest shot there was on his application list.

Visited Stanford last year. I literally walked out feeling smarter

I don’t think my stats are attractive enough, but I can’t help throwing $90 for a dream!

Stanford’s class of 2019 – 5.05% admit rate … :-S

Holy mother of pearl.

@fleetfeet2016 and the transfer acceptance rate is less than 2%
