Stanford 2022 athlete application

Anyone’s athletes submitted their app for class of 2022 yet?

My DD turned hers in yesterday and now comes the agonizing waiting. Should have decision within 14d, they say.

Good luck to all.

Just to update- my daughter did get a response approximately 10 days after submitting her application. She got accepted and will part of the women’s gymnastic team, class of 2026!

There isn’t much gymnastic recruiting info out there for Stanford and much of the rumors isn’t very accurate. Please reach out if anyone has any question!

Congratulations and good luck to your D!

Congratulations! Question: What has the recruiting process been like? As an athlete’s dad, and perhaps not a crucial position, it’s been a challenge going through the process

I think it varies by the sport for sure… but I think they all share a similar process if not timeline and absolute minimum requirements.this is for gymnastics…

  1. early conversations
  2. unofficial visits
  3. official visits
  4. accept “offer” to be committed to the process and be tagged by the coach. Most athletes seem to declare their commitment at this point. Others want to be accepted prior to public announcement.
  5. academic pre-reads with available Jr year grades and SAT/ACT scores. (Done fall of Jr year for women gymnastics). Need courses approved for senior year.
  6. if successful pre-read, application is released to the athlete winter/spring of junior year. Athletes need to do same applications as normal student body: letters of rec, all the essays etc.
  7. submit application following availability of junior year final transcript. Application is read by someone in admissions and if favorable, is sent to the dean of admissions for formal approval.
  8. admission offers communicated by coach and subsequently formal letter sent to Stanford portal (with disclaimer that you need to maintain current level of academic success).

Very important to have good relationship with coach and can trust coach. Important to ask coach their track record in getting tagged athletes admitted…

What kind of GPA is required to be admitted as an athlete? Do the same standards apply?

I think Christian McCaffrey had a 24 ACT and a 3.5ish GPA. He also had parents who are both alums, and he is, well, Christian McCaffrey. Do I think just any athlete can get it with those numbers? No.

His mother refers to him as a college drop out.

I would say it is highly dependent on the sport and within the sport, highly dependent on the individual athlete.

My daughter was admitted and while her grades and test scores are great— she would not have been able to get accepted as a non-athlete.
