I am looking to major in physics at Stanford; I have taken AP physics B (5) and will be taking Physics C Mech & EM this year. What exactly do the credits earned give me toward my major? As in, could I take the same courses entering Stanford my first year without taking the AP exams as opposed to getting a 5, 4, or 3 etc on the exams? Thanks!

Just google Stanfor AP Credits and you will see the chart. But with a 5 in AP Physics B it looks like you enter stanford with 8credits and you don’t have to take physics 21 or 23.

It looks like the AP Physic C, if you get a 4 or 5, will also give you credit for 23 or 43 and it will give you 5 credits. Apparently these two AP courses overlap. I would call the school and find out if it makes sense to pay for the AP exam for Physics C. Speak to someone in the Physics dept.

I know that the 21 series is a full year- 3 quarter series meant for kids with out AP physics. However the 40 series is a 2 quarter series meant for kids with AP background. So depending on what series you want will depend on whether or not you should take the Physics C exam.
