purmou, honey, it’s sweet to be optimistic, but we jaded, Debbie-downer seniors have the right to be grumbly about a ~5% acceptance rate too, eh? ;)

And HateSMUS, the whole fit idea is pretty swell. Still, if two people (I’m simplifying here) had the same “fit” about them and one was a national debate-winning, patent-holding researcher with publications, I think (s)he’d get accepted over, say, a high SATer with solid state-level awards and an internship who’s president of a club or two (which is what I assume we’re all at, more or less)

Blehhhh. But that’s my sourpus senior speaking.

I agree that “fit” is a big portion of the admissions process, however no one will really know what each admissions officer considers a “good fit”, all they know is the average scores for admitted applicants

Well, considering this whole process started for me just four months ago, a week is long enough to change my perspective…I’ve had a crazy first semester.

But it’s soooo loooooooooooooong though… I have 3 schools I might apply to, Princeton, Stanford, and Cornell. In that order. So if I don’t hurry up with the Princeton one there’s no hope for Stanford lol.

I think Stanford’s and MIT’s application essays took the longest time. I couldn’t apply to Yale because of my school restriction, so I don’t know about Yale’s essay prompts. It would be quite disturbing if the schools on which we put the most time on reject us. When I looked at MIT’s application, I was surprised that 4500 internationals compete for 150 spots despite the length of MIT’s application and its separate admission system from CommonApp.

I thought Stanford’s was hard until I looked at Brown’s.

That’s when I decided not to apply to Brown.

Ooh yeah MITs app was massive, so worth it though <3333
It’s a little insane to think that MIT gets like 25,000 applicants, imagine how many there would be if it was a commonapp school. It’s definitely one of the hardest US schools to get into for internationals though.

If the supplement is too bare-boned, won’t we lose a chance to show our precious voices? But if it’s long, then more chances for me to screw up arghhhhh.

And I did Stanford’s supp before anyone else’s, so everything after that was a breeze. Princeton’s, Yale’s, and Stanford’s were all actually kind of fun, if you take away the shame of knowing there’s way better candidates applying as well. But I have safeties, so it’s all good!
