Don’t know what’s more stressful - waiting for decisions from Stanford or thinking about how my family is going to be able to afford Stanford (or any university) if I am accepted

@KelMoo I feel the same way, but instead, I feel that I should put my best foot forward and apply to the colleges that I really want to go to. I’ll worry about the money after the acceptances.

I agree. Apply to the colleges you want to go to. You never know what your financial aid package may look like and what scholarships you might get.

Exactly! And with a school like Stanford, the return of investment is so high that it can easily outset the cost of attending.

Status: currently making a list of things I don’t like about Stanford (it’s only 2 things right now ) and have a poster saying “We regret to inform you…” hanging in my room just to prepare myself.

@predent if you don’t mind my asking, what two things are on your list?

@predent. Be gracious if you get in and be gracious if you don’t get in…that is a true sign of maturity. Don’t become one of those “haters” just because you did not win the “lotto”…and don’t become one of the many rejected who tells people “I never really wanted to go there anyways” or another very popular line in recent years is “I never applied” (what we call the phantom applications…you wonder where the 42,000 plus applications come from if no one is applying :-O) very popular amongst those students and parents who want to “save face”…

…be gracious in your acceptances and be gracious in your rejections…it will happen…and it will make you a better person in the long run…

…peace and have hope!

crap I forgot the CSS.

@gravitas2
Of course! A great policy to live by, I’m just prepping myself for what chances have in store-preventing possibly delusional thoughts, if you will. Now that I think of it though, I’m sure heartbreak is definitely a worthwhile part of the process, even if it may not seem so at first.

@KelMoo
My two things are:
- I’m from Chicago-I like the cold and the snow (naive? maybe)
- I’m not a fan of how Stanford, at least from my experience, does have a stanford bubble, and also how the surrounding areas are not very representative of most of the rest of the world. It would be interesting to see how such an affluent environment may have an impact on the students’ views on the rest of the world, but personally I value socioeconomic diversity and I think palo alto lacks that a fair bit and students who are of lower socioeconomic status are likely not too open about that, understandably so (and that’s anywhere). Although you can definitely venture only a bit out of the area to find more socioeconomic diversity, i’m wondering what the impact of it not being a constant component of students’ lives would be.

Ugh I’m so nervous I feel like crying every time I think of the 99% probability that I will receive a rejection letter. I don’t know what I’ll do after that tbh. I’ve spent almost my whole life wanting to go to Stanford (and I’m aware that there are many other people like that as well) so I’m already feeling depressed that Stanford’s probably going to tell me I’m not good enough ;-;

3 weeks a day 15hrs and 37 min left!

@theanaconda can you please not do the count down thing? People here are nervous as it is :P

Counting down helps pass the time :)

Well, where else is everyone applying to? Any backups? I’m hoping to get into at least one of the UC’s and then U of Madison as a backup to that backup :)

aah i see a countdown so um um let’s negate that with… happy thoughts!!! like glittery rainbows!!! or um chocolate cake?

lol @ivyaspirant14 how do you think I feel?? Only 10 days away for me…agh! But happy thoughts, happy thoughts…um college football on Saturday!!! oh uh Houston Texans play on Sunday!! oh and a nice big bowl of cinnamon toast crunch!!!

I’m applying to Princeton, Columbia, and Harvard for sure, a couple of UC’s, Reed, Williams, Georgetown, and then I found out today that I’m a semifinalist for this full ride scholarship to any school in my state so I’ve got a pretty sweet back up plan

@SaphLieRe Well I’ve already been accepted to UTexas and Alabama. My other schools that I have applied to are Stanford (obviously lol), Princeton, Yale, Purdue, Tulane, Baylor. If I don’t get into any of the “Big 3” I applied to, RD apps are waiting for Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Rice, and UChicago. UT and Alabama were my safeties and I would be 1000% happy attending either one, so now I’m just casting the net :)

I’m also applying to UIUC, UMich, Georgia Tech, Berkeley, UPenn, Cornell, CMU, and Princeton.

I’m applying to Berkeley, Princeton, Brown, UPenn, CMU, Cornell, WUSTL, and some others. I already got accepted into my safety so I’m good.
