When you send certain subject tests to a college, how long does it take to actually send to a school? DD taking 2 subject tests on Oct 1 and planning REA to Stanford, due Nov 1st. So if she wants to see her scores and see if they are worth sending and THEN send them, would they get there by the approximate deadline? I am actually assuming “sending to a school” is not paper – it is electronic and probably instantaneous anyway?! Why else would they send a bazillion pieces of paper to every school in today’s technological world?
It’s usually recommended that you send in your subject test scores a month before just to be safe… Actually, that’s what our college counseling office said. If you take the subject tests in October, you should be fine IMO.
@sunrisereader were you at a summer math program last month? If not, never mind. Reminded me of someone I met at a summer program, who is from Arizona and plans to apply to Princeton early.
@BlingBlingBling Sorry, that’s not me
Hey guys, I’m applying REA. I’m from Cyprus. Not sure how many students in Stanford are from Cyprus, but I hope I become one of them. Hopefully that’ll give me a boost. Any advice on the Stanford short essay questions?
lmao I’m from the wonderful state of California, where everyone and their mom applies to Stanford and three people from the entire school get in :)))))
Better 3 people per school than 1 person in your country xD
No one in my school has ever gotten into Stanford so I hope I’m the lucky outlier
Good luck to both of us
Thought it was true till the “This is not a free service” part
Has anyone started supplemental essays? Curiously Stanford’s website has an essay on intellectual vitality that does not appear on the Common App. Anyone know if this essay is required if it doesn’t show up on the Common App or is it hiding in a different place on CA? Help!
Hey, it shows up for me as the first question in the short essays section of the Stanford common app section.
Hey guys! So, my main EC is a community service thing and I can’t really fit everything into the 150 word limit in the description section of the Activities list on the common app. I’ve tried to condense it as much as I can but I feel like if I condense it even more it won’t do it justice because I’m really proud of it and it’s very important to me (also its the one EC i have that has a chance of impressing stanford lol). Should I just continue describing it in the Additional Comments section?? Or remove it entirely and put all of it in the Additional Comments??
@kbn2015 On the Stanford-specific questions on the Common App, there’s a part called Activities where you can “Briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences.” Try putting your longer description there!
@Lovemydolphins omg i completely forgot about that part. thank you!!!
hello again guys! does anyone know if stanford prefers it if u have rec letters from one english/social studies teacher and then one from a math/science teacher? I heard from someone that it looks better, but I can’t remember who it was. I’ve already asked my science teacher for one and was going to ask my AP human geo teacher for the other, but i dont think she or my english teacher could write that good of a letter for me bc although i got really good grades, i didn’t really put like an extraordinary amount of effort into their classes. i think my math teacher might be able to do a better job but I don’t know if it would look worse than having an eng/ss teacher write it.
@kbn2015 I have also heard that they prefer one from english/history/social sciences and one from STEM, but I think it also depends on your major- for example, I am interested in IR so both of my recs are history/social science.
Do you guys think it’s worth applying REA to possibly have a higher chance of getting in? Or should I just apply RD to improve my app, if there is no significant advantage applying early?
I’m doing REA, but I have been preparing for a while now. I hope it does give me a better chance of getting in. If you think you won’t be ready to do REA then do RD. If you think that what tou have is sufficient then go for it.
Looking to apply REA here…Does Stanford accept ACT scores from the October 22 date? On their website it says that they can’t guarantee it, but it’s still possible?
