Stanford Class of 2022 Discussion/Decisions

@AimingTop50 Did you submit an arts supplement? Also, if you are, do you know if the deadline for that is like Oct. 14 at 11:59 PM or is Oct. 15 at 11:59 PM? It says “Deadline Oct. 15” but idk what that means and I’m freaking out a bit.

@mohammadmohd18 I did not. I think it means tomorrow at midnight (Oct 15th at 11:59), but I am not 100% sure

Well, two minutes to go. I hope you’re right

You’re awesome! I’m guessing you’re applying to Stanford, so good luck! And good luck with all your other apps! I’m just not much of a West Coast person and Stanford admissions is just…insane…haha!!! You got this!

Hold up…someone is already in?? or is that person from last year??

Also, I was looking at your stats and I definitely think you have a chance but to be honest, Standford is just uber freaking competitive. It’s super hard to say as well because you only gave stats. Resume and the rest of the application are a HUGE part. Apply, do your best, hope for the best, and know that you’re qualified! Thousands of qualified applicants that would have done great things at this school get rejected every year (same goes for every school). I think it’s really interesting to hear about notable alum getting rejected from certain schools when they were high schools seniors. Bet sometimes these schools regret it but A. they have a lot of successful alum and B. maybe that person wouldn’t have done the things she/he did if insert schools wouldn’t have rejected her/him.

Sorry, I always go of on huge tangents. Anyway, point being, you’re in the running…maybe not the top, but not the bottom either. I say less than 50%…but…girl, I’m in the same boat for ivies but still have hope. You do you !!!

Thanks! My school doesn’t offer that many APs which explains my weighted GPA…I’ve taken 6 total and I’d say on average people take 2, maybe 3. More stats: 5 on AP Calc, 5 on AP Lang, 4 on APUSH. I’d say my essay/supplements are pretty good, and I think my recs will be too! My ECs are pretty solid I hope…they’re focused and kinda unique…lol like my username says, I’m hopeful!

Ahhhh!!! I HAVE SUBMITTED MY APPLICATION!! I am so thrilled, this is crazy <3

Hey guys! Nice to meet you all. Does anyone know whether the short answer #1 (Briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences) is supposed to be insightful or straight-to-the-point? I’m really confused about it because some websites say to talk about what you’ve learned from the experience and how it helped you better yourself as a person, but others just say to keep it brief.

@shapeofyou
Personally I was able to briefly detail my EC in the “Activities” section of the common app, so I expanded and provided some insight in the 150 word “essay”.

I kept mine pretty brief (I mean, you only have 150 words, I doubt they are looking for something super insightful) and included a short sentence on why the activity was meaningful to me.

@AimingTop50 @nerdbelle Thanks!

@hopefullll The scores are competitive, if that’s what you mean. I would be more concerned with extracurriculars or the essays in your application.

Man, this is the most active prospective students thread for class of 2022!

lol I sent 3 emails to my admission rep and she didn’t reply to any of them. #stalkermodeon

@factoryboylol Really bad idea. Would recommend against spamming admission officers, hurts your chances more than helps.

I didn’t send those e-mails because I thought it could help me. I had a few questions which I couldn’t find any answer to, and since I don’t have a proper guidance counselor who is informed about these stuff (I’m international), I tried to ask the admission rep. Obvs I won’t send any more e-mails and I sent the 3rd one yesterday because I thought something was off. It’s all stress and I believe she will not take it as spamming since I had genuine questions. @Tobster18

Homies is anyone else who’s applying REA freaking out? I’m so stressed I wanna get in sooo bad!!

Hey guys!

I was wondering how you guys think of my chances for Stanford/other top schools.

Here are my details/qualifications

Homeschooled
Junior
Asian Male, Income bracket <$80K, live in California Silicon Valley

Scores:
GPA: 4.0
Weighted: 4.9? I’m homeschooled and consider a lot of my classes as honors, and GPA for homeschoolers dont matter much to colleges. They tend to look more at test scores.
SAT Physics - 800
SAT Math 2 - 800
Aiming for 1550 on SAT 1, will take in December
PSAT in sophomore year 1450, new PSAT scores havent come out yet (hopefully NMSQT)
APs - MicroE - 5, Physics - 5, Macro E- 4 (-_-), AP Eng Lang - 4

Special Stuff:

7th Place in North America in a 1 million player global video game tournament (Clash Royale CCGS). Not sure how much this helps, and not sure how many people participated in NA (probably at least 100K). Won $3000

Aiming for F=MA Silver or Gold this year
Organized and taught three science camps (total around 25 kids)
Tutored for around 3 years
Coach basketball for kids
Starting a kids club (nonprofit) that I hope can grow to over 100 members with youth teachers by next fall, here is the website. I work with other youth teachers to teach club, will be organizing a STEM fair as well as putting on a physics show in January for it.
http://futurerocketscientists.■■■■■■■■■■/

Estimated 400 hours volunteer by junior year

Work around 10-15 hours a week at Chik Fil A (for the experience)

I know I don’t have spectacular EC’s or anything, I’m really counting on growing the club to show some leadership in my college apps. If I could organize science fairs, shows, and camps hopefully that shows something =)

Weak Areas:
Essays. I’m not horrible at essays, but I’m nowhere near good. Hopefully I’ll be able to write a good essay for my college apps

If you guys could tell me how I’m doing, what I should work on, and what schools might admit me I’d be much obliged!!

I’m thinking of applying RD instead of REA because I want more time to make my application (especially the essays) stronger

@hopefullll It’s best not to tie yourself to one school. Be prepared for the worst and be happy with your other options before December 15th comes around!

@ACEPLUS Provided you get a 1500+, you will be considered somewhat competitive for admission. You won’t be thrown out instantly. It will be the essays that grant you admission, as many people have impressive ECs and stats. Try to work on your creative essay-writing skills. You still have time.
