Hi! Do I need to submit official score report to Stanford since the website says
“Official score reports are not required unless the student is admitted and chooses to enroll.”
I got deferred! It’s super weird, I feel kind of special. Let’s cross our fingers for the regular decision round!
I got deferred, and at first I thought it was a legacy thing because my dad and a lot of his family members went there… but then I realized that we’re lower middle class and have donated… well, nothing. Nothing at all. So this gives me hope that it wasn’t a curtesy deferral.
My GPA is 3.97 unweighted for all four years of high school (god damn those A-s and that one B+ in advanced physics haha), and a 4.0 for senior year so far, and around a 4.7 weighted. My school doesn’t offer AP, but I take all advanced classes regardless. I think I had two awesome letters of recommendation, and I felt really good in my essay and supplements, as writing is my strong suit. I applied with an interest in anthropology, philosophy and religious studies, and linguistics (like on the common app website thing).
Extra curricular activities: star of school musical, major parts in various plays, founded a chapter of a club that advocates for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy), member of LGBTQ+ advocacy group, volunteer service work overnight at homeless shelter on weekends, viola player in school’s advanced string quartet (how quirky), volunteered to teach English to Mexican immigrant students in the south, has presented history research papers to school, has presented biomedical research projects to school, does photography, does painting, composes music…
Now my real concern is my SAT and SAT II scores. Yikes. I mean, they’re not too bad for a lot of the schools I’m also applying to, as Stanford is my real reach dream school, but by comparison to other Stanford applicants, it really sucks. I don’t want to make excuses, but being diagnosed with ADD, depression, and OCD right AFTER taking these tests really sucked for me, as my psychiatrist could have given the SAT peeps the word to give me extra time. Oh well.
Anyways. So I got a 1430 on my SAT, with a 710 in Math and a 720 in the English sections. I also scored an 8,7,8 on the essay (23), which would have helped me if anyone even cared about the essay section (my counselor told me no one does). My SAT 2s were DREADFUL. They’re honestly so embarrassing. I got a 640 in Literature and a 630 in Spanish… I didn’t have any time to study with all my extracurriculars and couldn’t afford any tutors. My school offered me a tutor who I worked with for about two weeks, but only for the regular SAT. I’m betting that my literature score doesn’t impact me too much in the admissions office because my English teacher is a Yale and Harvard graduate, and I have an A+ in his class for this semester. And my Spanish score… haha I dunno, at least I like learning Spanish.
I totally think the reason I was deferred was because of my SAT scores and maybe because I need so much financial aid, despite my dad going to Stanford. He’s a writer and my mom is an artist, so we hardly have any money. Everything else in my application was pretty solid… What do you guys think? You’ll probably agree with me on this one. I think I kind of tried to push the fact that I had an artistic background, but I’m not sure if that was enough… The college process sucks.
When are regular decision applications due? Is it by January 2 (January 1 @ 11:59pm) or is it on January 2 (January 2 @ 11:59pm) ?? My app still needs some work, but I don’t want to miss the deadline. Thanks!
@semicolon All ComApp deadlines are at 11:59 PM at that day. So Jan. 2, 11:59 PM EST.
Save all your essays! The common app portal will crash tonight!
I have the same question as @bookluver04 we don’t need to submit official score reports, right??
You should send official score reports. I don’t know what @bookluver04 saw that suggested otherwise but for my REA application I sent the score even before I submitted my application.
Stanford allows you to self-report test scores. However, once admitted, you’d need to submit official scores for confirmation.
My bad, It is only required to be sent with the application for International students, of which I am one.
Hi all: So my daughter submitted her Stanford application today, did not self-report test scores in the Common App, and just now ordered both SAT and ACT test scores delivered “rush” to Stanford. With the application deadline of tomorrow, does anyone know if she will be ok should the test scores not be delivered to Stanford from the testing agencies by 11:59pm tomorrow? We have receipts that they were ordered today, and the application FAQ says “Materials submitted by others, including school officials and testing agencies, may take several weeks to process. As a result, your checklist may not be complete by the deadline. This is completely fine.” Thanks for any info or thoughts.
You’ll be fine but why didn’t she self-report the test scores? They can’t do anything with her file until the scores come in.
@whickle17 She will be fine, no worries.
On my portal, it says my counselor LOR is missing. I just emailed my counselor and she told me Naviance confirmed it was submitted. Any idea what the problem is?
Also, does Stanford take supplemental materials (i.e. a research abstract) like Harvard does?
@futurelegend from their website:
May I submit supplementary materials like resumes, writing samples, research papers, articles, computer programs, or any other special work I have done?
We do not accept or process supplementary materials. If, however, you would like to provide more detail about your academic program, activities, honors, or background, you are welcome to use the Additional Information section in the application.
How do I send in an update to Stanford regarding a recent accomplishment?
@asaltyattic I think you can send it to credentials@stanford.edu. That’s where other application information (like if some test scores didn’t show up on your application) should be sent to.
@asaltyattic Im pretty sure you should email your regional admissions officer.
Hey how much does Stanford look at class rank? Threads seem to suggest you have to be in the top 1-5% but I’m thinking I might be more like 6-7%…also I go to a part-time magnet school which is the reason for my 4 Bs lol.
Did anyone got an email for the interview? I’m a RD applicant and recieved an email today. I’m pretty surprised with it cuz I rlly didn’t expect it
