Stanford Class of 2022 Discussion/Decisions

Oh and I’m also working on getting an internship

What do you think @gigichuck ?

Be honest and blunt please :frowning:

Anything you feel I should work on in these coming months…?

Forgot to add :- Assistant President of Student Union Government at my school

Check leadership, check community service, the only thing missing is the awards, but maybe you have a school achievement? Also note that adcoms take into account your opportunities available.

I’m not sure if there’s still time to work on anything besides essays and test scores, but work on that internship :wink:

Ohhh Yeah school achievement. I’ll add a couple of those. Thanks.

I’ll do my best to improve my scores even further :slight_smile: .

A friend of mine got into Duke 2021 with a new SAT score of 1460. He’s Kenyan by the way.

Did he need FA?

Yes he needed FA. Duke Offered him 110% financial aid :slight_smile: yes 110% :slight_smile: . But he declined that because he got the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship which covers tuition and a WHOLE lot more :slight_smile: .

MasterCard Foundation Scholarship at Duke *

@David Kwentua

Yeah, I also know a guy from my country (in Africa) who got into Yale with 100% financial aid. He had a 2130 on the old SAT, which translates to a 1470 if I’m not mistaken. It really is possible.

Yeah it is :slight_smile: . Can’t wait :smiley:

Wow that’s great :slight_smile: . I’m really looking forward to applying :slight_smile:

Anybody on :-?

Hey guys, welcome!

I still have to take SAT 1 and subjects too. Planning to spend all summer working on apps and studying for those, but I’ve been really busy…

Biggest regret of my high school career is not getting the standardized tests out of the way sooner

@David Kwentua say what? That sounds awesome! Some schools have stopped the Mastercard scholarship though, like UC Berkeley. Would’ve liked to apply there.

Which school did give him the Mastercard?

@gigichuck he got the MasterCard Scholarship at Duke :slight_smile: .

He also got the MasterCard Scholarship at Michigan State University but he chose Duke (for obvious reasons :))

@MatthewW12 don’t stress it’s no biggie… The less pressure you put yourself under the better you’ll perform trust me.

Do you use the Khan Academy Sat Practice? It’s really helpful

@MatthewW12 Yay partner :slight_smile:

@David Kwentua He got offered 2 different awesome scholarships from one school with a 1460?? Any idea of his GPA or if he had any outstanding awards?

Not sure of his GPA. He’s going to be graduating from the African Leadership Academy’s two year pre-university program tomorrow. I think maybe he has a few awards but nothing OUTSTANDING. He is very passionate about his community and organizes programs which offer help to them because he is also from a very poor background. He was able to craft his personal story so well and i think that aided in his acceptance.

I visited him at the academy today :slight_smile: . He introduced me to someone who got into Yale :smiley: .

I had an interesting discussion with the Yale-bound guy: he told me that besides SAT scores, the way you tell YOUR personal story through your essays whilst making them all have one theme is very important. He said his main theme was entrepreneurship and he crafted all his essays in ways that showcased different characteristics of himself regarding things he has done to show his entrepreneurial spirit and why he is THE entrepreneur Yale is looking for.

It really makes sense aye. The guy going to Duke as well also said something similar… Essays are waaaay more important in getting accepted, to be honest. Especially for top schools.

You should also check out Michigan State University… It’s pretty easy to get into and has MasterCard scholarship (THE BEST!!!). It’s a very good safety (But Duke and Stanford are still the main goal :wink: :)) )

I would like to ask about the Stanford roommate question :)) i think that will be a very tricky one
