Anyone ask for recommendations yet? I’ve emailed two of my teachers: my English and my chemistry teacher but only my English teacher has replied. She said yes! I have to fill out a resume and all the questions about my life and things like that. It been taking up a bit of my summer but it’s been keeping me busy so I’m not too bored either lol
@angelwings0137 my school required us to ask for our recommendations back in May so our teachers could work on them over the summer…I asked my Math teacher and my Chemistry teacher
@MatthewW12 its a blessing and a curse to get them out of the way though…I prepped a ton for the Feb ACT and was one-and-done, but now I feel like I need to be working on something, so its stressful because there’s not a ton to do until August 1
@del0107 that’s cool! My school just sorta leaves us on our own.
But anyway my chemistry teacher finally got back to me and she said yes! So I’m all set in terms of recommendations =D>
I haven’t asked yet. But I’ll get from the same teachers who wrote for YYGS for me.
Anyone using coalition app?
Hey guys! Super nervous to apply but happy we all have each other for support, may the odds ever be in our favor!
Hey! I’m pretty nervous to apply because I don’t have any academic achievements on the state or national level (no state/national science fairs, olympiads, etc).
But my GPA/test scores, ECs, and leadership are fairly strong in my opinion.
Does anyone know how much Stanford cares about big awards (or lack of)?
@luckymaple Stanford likes awards, but they care more that you’re interested in something. I think there was a guy a couple years ago that had no ECs except for building model planes and he got in!
One of the things that I love about Stanford is that there doesn’t seem to be one cookie cutter type of student that they like to admit. I’m sure you’ll be fine
Hey guys, does anyone know if Stanford cares about your intended major. I see on results threads that lots of people apply for CS. Since I’m really into environmental science,/engineering, which doesn’t seem to be super popular as a major, will I be competing separate from the CS crowd?
Environmental science will be less competitive than engineering. Engineering is almost on CS levels of popularity! @Harpguy2022
Hi guys, class of 2020 here… You got this.
Yeah we got it!
@newkidnewtrix , @Harpguy2022 is talking about environmental science or environmental engineering, not just engineering in general.
Since you will be applying to stanford as a whole and not just the college of engineering, you will be competing with all other applicants.
@angelwings0137 I read your previous post about your college list - Harvard’s engineering is not strong… to say the least. Harvard Engineering is taken as a joke actually by much of the engineering world, as they are very limited in focus and relatively very new.
Most recruiters ignore Harvard and other ivies like Dartmouth and Brown. I would suggest giving flagship state schools a look, where engineering often reigns supreme: Georgia Tech, UMich, etc.
They would be great options for engineering if you dont get into the likes of Stanford (not sayin u aren’t!).
@isodidact I’m aware there’s no colleges inside the University, I’m just curious if Stanford takes into consideration major when creating a ‘balanced’ class
@Harpguy2022 oh in that case I would think that you will have less competition than the CS kids in that sense…
CS is getting very saturated these days because of how popular it is…
My apologies @Harpguy2022 , I misread your post and thought that you meant plain ol’ engineering, not environmental engineering! Either environmental option will separate you from the throngs of CS and EE applicants.
Cool major choice btw!
Wow I don’t know how I have completely missed this thread but hi everyone! My first choice is definitely Stanford and I’ll probably be applying either QB early action (cause Stanford is non-binding in QB yay) or REA.
@Soccer1235 Hey! By QB, I’m going to assume you mean Questbridge. I’m also considering applying to Stanford through QB or REA
I’ll be applying to Stanford REA with arts supplement -which is a bit earlier than the usual REA deadline- from Turkey! No matter the outcome, I’d say it has been hell of a ride and I’m so excited!!!
I mean, I plan to apply but then again my stats are
