Stanford Class of 2023 Discussion

DS had his alumni interview this afternoon (South TX). I think it was the first one he actually enjoyed and felt good about. Good luck everyone!

^ Same here…Very good alumni interview, but not sure how much weight it is given in the admission process.

I am from India and my interview is scheduled for the second week of Feb.

A sample of a Stanford likely letter — https://www.quora.com/Does-Stanford-send-likely-letters-to-undergraduate-applicants-who-have-a-high-chance-of-admittance

There’s also an article about them in the Stanford Daily if you want to google.

Hey guys, something weird just happened…

I had my interview on 29th of January. Now my interviewer just contacted me saying he wants to conduct another interview…

What does this mean?

Anyone else who applied RD get an email from Stanford Admissions saying that you’re getting early word that you’re being admitted? Same info when I log into the portal? Just seems odd. Would love to know if this is real or a mistake.

Wow really? Wold you mind sharing a picture?

@whatsmypassword My kid wasn’t comfortable sharing a pic, but we noticed that the wording appears to be identical to one posted on the web for last year (except for the name of the applicant and the name of the admissions officer in the body of the letter).

Oh no problem…

Convey my congratulations to her! She must be highly talented to get this LL

@whatmypassword It’s all a crap shoot. I’ll be happy to get off this crazy bus called the college admissions process…

I just got an invitation to an interview via facetime/skype… so if you haven’t gotten anything yet, maybe you still will.

Hey guys, just commenting on this thread because I’ve applied RD for the Class of 2023. I’m also nervous af smh. Does anybody have tips to handle college anxiety?

@JLBball5 ,

I know it’s hard, but try to remind yourself of the facts. That is, you’ve already submitted your application, done the best you can, and now there’s nothing more to do than just wait. Repeat that thought like a mantra.

For my college anxiety, there are a couple of things that help me.

(1) I check my application portals basically every day. For some people, this may make them more anxious. For me, seeing the check marks next to all my materials, confirming that they’re submitted reminds me that I have everything in and that I’ve done all I can.

(2) Another thing I do is talk with my friends sometimes about college. Hearing about what stresses them and stressing together builds a stress/anxiety squad and somehow sharing all of that stress lessens it. It reminds you that you’re in the same boat as everyone else!

(3) The third thing I do is trying to do things that take my mind off of college. I immerse myself in my current school work and studying and let myself drown in everything I have to complete just for school right now. I also immerse myself in things that I enjoy such as reading, drawing, and other extracurriculars. Spending all my time and thoughts on things like this allows me to put thoughts about college on the back shelf.

I know that some of these methods contradict each other, so you can’t do them all at the same time necessarily, but they work for me. These are the 3.5 methods I use to deal with college anxiety. Hope this helps you in some way! I know everyone deals with it a little differently.

Does Stanford track mid year reports on the application portal? I submitted a few weeks back and it says it was downloaded on the common app but it hasn’t shown up on the portal yet.

@solidcashmoney To my knowledge, Stanford, like most universities, evaluates all applications in context - considering the opportunities your school system, country and general environment offer you. Your application will be read by someone who can appreciate your achievements re: A-levels (and they look pretty stellar to me) and knows about the region you are applying from. My daughter got accepted EA from Turkey, and it restored my belief in the system. I always believed she was exactly the type of person that they always say they are looking for (with a passion, confident and a bit quirky, but with no hooks whatsoever apart from maybe the tiny one of being a strictly STEM girl…). I’d say if your essays are strong and individual you should have a shot - if one can have an actual shot; in the end, as you know, there is always a lot of luck involved also. Best of luck to you then!

Have likely letters already been sent out?

Yes, I believe on friday they were sent

Hi folks- just a quick message to note that today I received Stanford’s legacy parent letter and stats sheet explaining the app process and role of legacy in admissions. No stats on this year, but last year they received 47,000+ freshman applications and offered admission to just 4.4%.
