Stanford 10-12 GPA: UW: 3.5 (will be 3.6 upon applying) W: 4.116 (largest upward trend you’ve ever seen) ACT: 33
3.0 Sophomore year, 4.0 Junior Year
I won’t list every stat, I’ll just say the impurities.
Had to drop AP comp sci sophomore year, had a C-
A total of 8 B’s and 2 C’s (hardest possible course load at my school, took the most classes taken by anyone)
EC’s: I don’t feel like listing them all, they are decent and compare to most people admitted
Hooks:
AP Scholar
URM
live in california?
Could you list your EC? I cannot compare you to anyone without EC, especially considering that EC are the most important part of your application.
I agree that it is virtually impossible to chance you without knowing your ECs. Saying they “are decent and compare to most people admitted” is a relative measure, and I cannot gauge your accuracy in stating so.
That said, by just evaluating your ACT score (33) and GPA (3.5 - 3.6) I would say your chances are very very small. That you have 2 Cs on your transcript is especially troubling because schools such as Stanford do not even like to see that you have more than 4 or 5 Bs in schools. Being a URM is a hook, but being an AP scholar and living in California are not. Yes, Stanford does seem to have some major feeder schools (such as Gunn, Mission SJ, Monta Vista, etc) but even attending these schools is not a hook, and virtually every Stanford applicant is an AP scholar. ALSO, you have not mentioned that you have taken any SAT 2 subject tests, which are what really shows colleges what you are interested in and have the skills for. Stanford will want to see that.
People I have talked to have told me applying to Stanford REA may not be the best option because apparently the EA applicant pool is heavily concentrated in legacy applicants, athletes, and outstanding/exceptional students who have done crazy things (published books, started successful companies, etc.), so I myself was recommended to not apply to Stanford EA. I am not sure how much of this is true, but I do encourage you to apply to Stanford EA if that is what you want. Ultimately like I said, it is very hard to tell you your chances since ECs are such an important part of the application. If you are willing to list them below for us to see and evaluate, I can give you a more accurate analysis. But as of now, your chances don’t look too great…

You would have to have really exceptional EC’s to raise your chances with a 3.5. I really urge you to post your EC’s so we can weigh in!
I think that your chances at Stanford are very low. Definitely focus on other schools. Congratulations on your huge upward trend, this will get you into some very good schools but I would be very surprised if Stanford was one of them.
I think decent and comparable ECs will not make up for your GPA. That being said nothing wrong with applying. My kids both applied and were rejected but the lengthy application gave them most of the components to complete their other applications. They did apply EA and could springboard from their early efforts. Good luck.
My son has such a struggle with standarized tests - he overthinks. Right now he is a rising senior (out of state). His GPA is: 4.0 (unweighted) and 5.16 (weighted). He is in the IB program. Straight A’s. His SAT is 1360 and ACT is 30. Over 200 hours of community service, plays a sport (golf), holds an officer position on BETA club (2nd year as officer) and has various other clubs / activities. Any shot at Stanford ?
