My recomendations should be very good, and my essays should be very good to good. My counselor said he would highlight my dancing, and if possible I will mention it if I can work it in the essay.

My other schools are
U of Minnesota, Twin Cities
U of Wisconsin, Madison
U Michigan, Ann Arbor
Northwestern
UC Berkeley
Cornell
Carnegie Mellon
Wellesley
MIT
McGill
and of course like every one else Stanford EA

If you could tell me what you think my chances are, or other schools that would fit please please let me know.

Wohoo, fellow minnesotan. :P
I wish I could go easy on you, but I think you'd rather hear the truth.
Your probably know what PSEO is when I mention it :P, anyways I took over 60 college credits (some IT Honors, which usually require 32 act) at the U of M when I was junior and senior and I think that was a nice boost, espically competing aganist all the UMTYMP kids (who finsihed all 4 years of calc before leaving HS).

Your strong points are definately your 6th year of french, espically when many who applied only come with 4 years and an AP score.
Another strong points assuming the school that I know where you came from ,sent multiple students to Stanford the year I went. Any being captain of their KMO team is a definate plus, since they seem to win every year :P

Your weak points may be the low SAT and SAT II scores as compared to the rigorness of the school you mentioned.

U of Minnesota, Twin Cities - Very good (take Honors :P)
U of Wisconsin, Madison - Very Good
U Michigan, Ann Arbor - Very Good
Northwestern - Decent
UC Berkeley - Good
Cornell - Good
Carnegie Mellon - Decent
Wellesley - Don't Know
MIT - Reach
Stanford EA - Reach (espically since they implicated the EA and the # of applicants expected this year, it will be hard

I'm a little confused Anthony, do you know what school I go to? I'm befuddled about the whole, "Another strong points assuming the school that I know where you came from, sent multiple students to Stanford the year I went." Do you go to Stanford? Just wondering... but thanks so much for looking at my stats

yeah read my other reply to the other topic :)
I think I know the school you went to, but I can't say for sure. I can send you a private message of the school I think you went to if you would like.

just post it here. my parents freak out about message boards, they would shoot me if I gave out my email address. Are you at Stanford now?

yes

Did you go to Hopkins or one of the schools west of Minneapolis?

Hopkins, how did you know?? Thats really weird

Just the way you described the courses at Hopkins, since I knew someone else that went to Hopkins and talked to him, and he explained a bit about his school
<-- good memory ;)

and this part

-Knowledge Masters (5yrs)- Captain, we have always been in the top 10 in the state, with a 1st place, and a 2nd place ranking for two competitions, and even ranked in the top 10 nationally.

Everyone knows Hopkins and once in a while South Minneapolis, dominate at this

gotcha, wow I was a little weirded out at first. Who do you know from Hopkins? I probably know him. Thats cool, I did not know that people knew of us, I mean i know we're always really good, I didn't know we were known for that. If that made any sense. okay, now I'm going to go finish my app for your school. I really want to go to Stanford, but I'm trying not to get hung up on it bc seriously i don't know how good my chances are.

Krissy or Crissy I knew graduated 4 years ago was from Hopkins (PSEO Student). She was one of the alumnae to talk at the informative session I believe
Jerry graduated 3 or 4 years ago and was from Hopkins (PSEO student)

ur dedication to dance is amazing! my best friend does Bharatanatyam and just graduated (Arangetum...sp is wrong...i apoligize!) and that is just awesome...like ur councelor said, stress it!

thanks I'm trying stress that. I hope I can do my arangetrum but we'll see.

wow, this website is ridiculous. If you haven't posted in like, 8 hours you're on the 3rd page!! well this is just a BUMP

Being a fellow Minnesotan, I'll tell you your chances at the schools you listed are very slim. The following are far reaches for you,
Northwestern
UC Berkeley
Cornell
Carnegie Mellon
Wellesley
MIT
McGill

And I'd like you to know that Hopkins is NOT at all competitive compared to the elite public schools around it like Wayzata, Edina, and Eden Prairie. In fact Hopkins is looked as an AVERAGE school.

However
U of Minnesota, Twin Cities
U of Wisconsin, Madison
U Michigan, Ann Arbor
You are in at all three. I'm really good friends with my counselor and being familiar with the region's demographics and the students produced out of it, the majority of students ivy bound are the UMTYMP kids. 70% of them to clarify. The wrap things up, I'll give you percents for your schools.
U of Minnesota, Twin Cities (100%)
U of Wisconsin, Madison (100%)
U Michigan, Ann Arbor (89%)
Northwestern (40%) You are reinforced by your good GPA, but hurt by crap Rank
UC Berkeley 45% Forum WILL help
Cornell 10% Your overall application is weak
Carnegie Mellon 45% (an indian friend of mine had same stats as you and got in)
Wellesley 44%
MIT 5% (what happend to your science projects after 9th grade? and you don't appear to be l337 in mathematics either. I'm sorry to say but a 690 won't cut it here.)
McGill 25%
and of course like every one else Stanford EA 3%

Holy Crap Do I Know You? Do You Know Siddharth Bhendari Or Raj Uppal?

OMG are you David? Yes of course I know them, they are two of my best friends! My god you do this to everyone, remember Saloni you did this to her too. Come on now, when I talked to you over the summer, you told me my chances were higher than you're saying now. Meh whatever. thanks for posting, you're first post though, was harsh. But thanks for clarifying.

I know Hopkins is not the "best" school in Minnesota, but it is recognized nationally by many colleges. In my personal opinion I rank Maple Grove and Wyzata as some of the best. As for UTYMP, these students usually get into any school of their choice. Minnesota students have about a 25% acceptance rate into MIT last year, UTYMP kids had an almost 50% chance of being accepted. As for caltech, Minnesotians in UTYMP had an over 50% chance of being accepted, well above the average. However, PSEO students also havea great shot ;) (though many of their college credits will be thrown out at top schools).

David, that is, assuming you are david, why are you even at this forum? aren't you a sophomore? You have another 2 years to go, before you even start applying, go be a normal sophomore. I'm really glad I didn't start worrying about college till alst year, or I would have gone nuts. Three other comments/questions

-I stopped science fair b/c i went from the junior high to the high school and they didn't have an advisor for that. and also due to bugdet cuts, my old advisor stopped doing it so I couldn't get help from her either.
-How badly will my Math score hurt me? and will my 770 IIC score help me redeem myself?
-i really don't think its correct to say the Hopkins is an average district. We may not compare to Edina and our football team may suck, but apart from that we have everything that all the other districts have going for them. But I think we rank up there w/ Wayzata, Edina, and Minnetonka.

Yep I'm David. LOL Raj told me you were like "David is sooooooooo weird"
Anyway I'll try and answer these questions. First of all, why am I here? Well the truth is, if I started worrying in my junior year, I'd be screwed. So far I haven't recieved any confirming of any colleges wanting to send me a full ride, except for the U of M TC Honors which is guarenteed as a way to keep instate talent.
-Now first of it is important you continue to conduct research despite the lack of an advisor. The U of M has some really nice professors who are willing to let you intern on a project with them, which you may send to national competitions.
-Your math score of 690 will hurt you, but the 770 does redeem you in one way, it shows you are only making careless mistakes but you still can grasp the important concepts.
-I'm basing my analyis on Hopkins only on the fact that they don't send many students to the Elites per year.
Overall I see a pretty strong app. The thing that bothers me about Berekley is, they only reserve 3% of their incoming freshmen for out of staters. If you lived in Califorina you'd almost be guarenteed a spot in their program. By the way, as for the 10 year Indian dance thing, I think I might be going to one of those indian dances soon. Sid looks funny when he dances.
