Hi all,
So I’m at a CCC applying for junior transfer and am applying to Stanford as a “why not.”
Quick stats:
HS: 3.9 GPA/4.1 weighted
4 AP scores, 3 4’s & 1 5
SAT: 1710
College: 3.75 (probably going up after this sem.)
Leadership position in student gov., manager at my part-time job, done research and have had an abstract published, honors student, have won academic scholarships, have experience in my career of interest, will have 2 A.A. degrees, etc.
How important is my SAT score? If I worked at it I could probably raise it, but would it look silly for me to have retaken it after 3 years? Worth the investment? Or would my college accomplishments outweigh my score?
While they follow a holistic admission policy, the score you submit, 1710, is entirely our of the range of even “hooked” applicants. By way of example, average admitted applicants SAT is north of 2200, and even at the bottom 20th percentile, the score is near 2100. So, in short, you would need to retake the SAT, and have a minimal improvement, of 400 plus points, to be a legitimate candidate.
Excuse me, I thought you were a HS candidate, I would check with both Stanford and your CC counselor about the requirements–but, probably not.
No problem, thanks for the response. Could you please clarify what “probably not” is referring to?
You will probably not get accepted into Stanford. They take the absolute cream of the crop. It’s unrealistic, and probably isn’t worth the application fee (I don’t mean to be harsh, but that’s how it is.)
What’s your major? Where else are you applying?
I’m not planning on or relying on being accepted. It may not be realistic to apply (you’re right it’s not harsh, it’s reality), but I may or may not be a good holistic student. So I’m going to try because I would rather have a 0.001% chance than 0% (not try).
I’m an anthropology major and applying to UCB, UCLA, UCSB, UCI.
