Hi everyone,
I know that Stanford’s score policy requires applicants to submit all of the SAT & ACT scores they have. I studied for and focused on the ACT – I took it in two sittings, with the first being a 33 C & the second a 35 C. However, after the 33 C, my mom told me that she wanted me to sit for the SAT just to see how I did, and I ended up getting a 1490. Obviously, the 35 is a much better score than a 1490, but would the 1490 weaken the appearance of my application overall? Stanford is the only school I’m considering where I would have to send in my SAT score, so I won’t be retaking that test. Just wondering about chances here, going into the process. Thanks!
If you didn’t send the SAT, I’m really not sure how’d they know you took it in the first place. However, when you send all your scores, all Stanford will make a decision on is a 35 ACT, which will qualify you for further consideration (not mere grades & scores, but a thorough review of ECs, essays, recs etc.). Someone here please correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure it’s not a problem if you just send all sittings of the ACT. But if I am indeed wrong, I wouldn’t stress about them seeing a 1490 - both are wonderful scores.
Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure both are required. The Stanford website says: “Official scores from all test dates must be sent to Stanford directly from the ACT or the College Board (the reporting agency for the SAT) or both if the applicant has taken the ACT and the SAT.”

Thank you, @writergirl0316 for clarifying. I stand by what I said though - all they will take into consideration re: scores is that you have a 35C on the ACT, and that is more than sufficient for further consideration pending your academic transcript and course rigor are deemed fit.
