Stanford SCEA Chances

I have also just recently found out that I am a finalist in the Maryland Wide Distinguished Scholars Program. It is a program in Maryland that awards scholarships and awards students on various categories. My achievement was based on Academic Excellence which is rated on GPA as well as PSAT score.

My Department head at the Lab i work for also says that she is a close acquaintaince of the Dean of Medicine at Stanford because he was head of the NCI- Pediatric Oncology Branch and "wrote the book on Pediatric Oncology" She hinted she would write me a recommendation to him if I asked her, how much of an effect would this have considering that he is the Dean of Medicine and is not part of the Undergraduate School

Haha, Sephiroth, we probably work in the same building :) PM me.

Nice stats, I think you'll make it in.

ED dartmouth, you're in, no question. regular, though, is a different story. so applying EA to stanford is a huge gamble since you jeopardize your chances at dartmouth for an unlikely admit. i'd think about how much more you like stanford than dartmouth before you enter this scenario.

Is Dartmouth that much easier to get into ED than it is RD? I thought that the majority of the difference came if you were deferred as it would give you a preferred status over others. Can anyone else comment on the effect of Early Decision vs Regular?

Can some one also give me an idea of my chances to University of Michigan, WUSTL, Swarthmore, and Emory?

Stanford-reach

i know its a reach . . . but any advice related to my questions?

any other advice?

I think you should apply SCEA to Stanford and RD to Dartmouth unless you're sure you would pick Dartmouth over Stanford. Also make sure to start thinking about Stanford's supplemental questions (if they're not online yet, look at the ones from last year).
