Admission decisions were released, does anyone know how competitive this is this year?
Did anyone apply for it?
Rejected :/. Really thought I had a good chance of getting in… How was your result?
Waitlisted
I got in but I don’t know if anyone else did Do you guys think it’s still as prestigious as the 2015 one? The 2015 one was the only one I found admission stats on
Is this for the regular round? The website says the notification will come April 5, and I haven’t received anything in my email.
@elloox Would it be possible for you to link me to the 2015 stats? I was unable to find them
Rejected
I feel like I said something somewhat questionable on one of my essays… didn’t disrespect anyone/any group but I may have put too much detail/emphasis on the fact that I live in a diverse environment which probably made it seem somewhat phoney and forced. I’m also guessing that it made me seem like I labelled and stereotypes people a lot. Whoops.
I also pulled a mediocre research paper from my last year’s history class as part of the requirements (so basically, I put the most effort in reaching into the depths of my hard drive to retrieve this poorly-written document) To this day I still barely know how to write a research paper. What are parenthetical citations??? What is analysis??? What are research papers??? But the most important question of all: What am I doing???
And teacher recommendations… hahaha, you know how you could ask four teachers for teacher recs? Two of my recs were definitely awesome. Another rec was from my language teacher; she likes me but I’ve been slacking in her class so it probably wasn’t phenomenal. Then I asked my history teacher despite the pit at the bottom of my stomach constantly asking “what do you THINK you’re doing???” … To top things off, I went to her class five minutes before it ended (was at counselor meeting) on the day I asked her for a recommendation. She didn’t start the rec until the day of the deadline and finished it in one hour. She WAS neutral-leaning-towards-like towards me, but now she hates me. Meh. I don’t really regret anything. While I did go through a mini existential crisis on the day my rejection email arrived, I’m completely over that now.
So if anyone wants to know what I learned from this… don’t live life on the edge and get recs from teachers who may or may not like you. also, put thought into essays and research paper stuff!
Good luck for the rest of you!
@elloox where did you find the admissions stats?
I applied during rolling admissions. Hopefully, I get in as well. I’m a TASP Finalist so hopefully get one or the other
I applied a couple of days after the app was due; I haven’t gotten any results back I am so nervous! X_X Please let me know the admission stats! @elloox
Sorry guys I didn’t mean the actual stats but some information on the competitiveness of the cohort admitted (http://www.stanforddaily.com/2015/01/14/stanfords-summer-humanities-institute-brings-talented-humanities-students-to-campus/)
“According to Mohit Mookim ’18, an SHI classmate of Bharmal, there were 50 students enrolled in the course, 30 of whom were fellow rising seniors. Of the 30 students who would potentially apply to college in the months following the camp, according to both Mookim and Bharmal, 11 are currently enrolled at Stanford.
“We saw a surprising number be admitted and then come to Stanford,” Edelstein said, referring to those who attended SHI the same year that Bharmal and Mookim did. Edelstein also noted that the percent of admitted students who ultimately decide to come to Stanford is higher than that of typical admits.
“The kind of student who would apply to this sort of program tends to be already very motivated and tends to be a high academic performer,” he said.”
It looked quite selective, but of course it’s pure inference and I don’t think they’ve released actual stats
Do all of you that got accepted plan on attending?
@elloox Which course were you assigned?
I got accepted and will be attending Revolutions course!! So excited!
I also attended the Stanford Pre-collegiate Courses last year; if any of you guys have questions, feel free to ask me!
I applied for the extended round and I still haven’t gotten my results back… Don’t know what to expect! @yalie21 would you say your “stats” were impressive?
@sleepneeded00 I applied under rolling basis as well. I think they’re waiting to figure out how many people accept/deny their spot for the Humanities Institute before they notify us. If a lot of people choose not to attend, then they will pick some of us. They have 2 weeks to accept and pay their deposits which means that the rest of us shouldn’t expect to hear anything before April 12.
@sleepneeded00 Well there’s not much to do besides waiting for the response! As for my stats, I only got 34 ACT and 1490 PSAT. I took AP Calc BC and AP Chem sophomore year and got 5 in both. 800 on SAT Subject Test for Math II. I really don’t think the test scores did much- just another benchmark. Plus, we’re talking about humanities courses- not math and science ones.
Wow I really need to decide now because I need to let the other program know whether I am attending or not… ~X(
ACCEPTED! Are you guys all attending?
@sleepneeded00 Hey congrats! What course were you assigned to?
