I'm interested in Stanford's Summer Session for High School Students but the thing is it's going to be around $10,000 and after looking around on these forums, doesn't seem to be much help at all for college apps. I've found a local summer program that would be free: HHMI Professors Program I guess I'm asking if it's worth it to go to the Stanford thing anyways or just go to the local program and if the local program would help in a college app. I've never heard of HHMI to I don't really know if a college would considered that on an app. Thanks, sorry if my question isn't really clear

My school council told me to apply for it… well, I did and I am accepted.
So, just come with me. lol

The general consensus is that summer college sessions don’t help with admittance into specific colleges, i.e., going to Stanford Summer isn’t going to boost your chances at getting into Stanford come the fall. That said, it’s hard to see how attending a summer program that gets you college level credits can be a bad thing for your overall applications. Also, like some AP credits, those college credits can be are transferable to the college you finally attend, thereby potentially shortening the list of classes required to get your final degree. So in a sense the amount you spend now could comeback to you later with a slightly lower tuition bill at your next college stop.

If you have the financial resources and the program is offering something you’re really interested in, then I’d say why not try? To me these programs are “test runs” for college: you live away from home, you’re on your own as far as managing your time and you have to learn how to deal with all the social interactions of a new environment. I’d suggest investigating classes on the track you’re interested in; my son did just that and the summer program confirmed what he wanted to pursue in college. Besides getting the credits, it allowed him to really focus his final college list.

Stanford is not worth it. It’s nothing like Stanford in regular session, the summer program accepts all. It won’t help at top colleges.
