Stanford Supplement at least 250 or up to 250?

On Stanford's website, it says

"The Stanford Supplement Short Essays

Candidates must respond to all three questions/topics. Please respond to the following essay topics with up to 250 words"

But on Common App, it says

"Please respond to the following essay topics using at least 250 words (up to 2000 characters), but not exceeding the space provided. "

So which one should I follow??

I did at least 250 and up to 2,000 because that’s what it allows you to enter on the Common App.

ditto Rush10

Candidates respond to all three essay topics using at least 250 words, but not exceeding the space provided.

Stanford students possess intellectual vitality. Reflect on an idea or experience that has been important to your intellectual development.
Virtually all of Stanford’s undergraduates live on campus. Write a note to your future roommate that reveals something about you or that will help your roommate—and us—know you better.
What matters to you, and why?

It says at least 250 words and the common app supplement confirms that by saying at least 250 words to 2000 characters. So follow the common app.

okay good, this thread had me scared for a sec

^ same lol. I was afraid everyone would do the <250.

I went by Stanford’s limit of 250 words. I don’t know why anybody would disregard them specifically stating “UP TO” 250 words. The CommonApp isn’t created by Stanford so just because it’s able to be done doesn’t mean do it. But it shouldn’t be too big of a deal.

^ Agreed. If Stanford wants you, I don’t think a few words too many or too few will make a difference.

Stanford’s website says this “Candidates respond to all three essay topics using at least 250 words, but not exceeding the space provided.”

Which is the same directions on the common app.

Their limit of up to 250 words is last year’s limit. They updated the third prompt and word limit this year, so you should follow their directions of 250 words to 2000 characters.
