<p>It says at least 250 words and the common app supplement confirms that by saying at least 250 words to 2000 characters. So follow the common app.</p>
<p>I went by Stanford’s limit of 250 words. I don’t know why anybody would disregard them specifically stating “UP TO” 250 words. The CommonApp isn’t created by Stanford so just because it’s able to be done doesn’t mean do it. But it shouldn’t be too big of a deal.</p>
<p>Their limit of up to 250 words is last year’s limit. They updated the third prompt and word limit this year, so you should follow their directions of 250 words to 2000 characters.</p>
