Stanford Transfer Applicants 2009

yeah, my ID doesn’t work when I enter it. There might be something to it. Congrats, guys!

that’s what 4 people its worked for? hmmm…

yeah, it’s possible that 4 CC students got in out of 25. The people whose IDs worked were also accepted to other Ivys, so it’s not out of the ordinary that they be accepted to Stanford as well.

occ, so are you heading to amherst? =D can u believe I may be choosing berkeley over wellesley for the money? yuck huh? too damn bad about stanford tho, i wouldve chosen stanford over both. I guess ill just wait for nwstern and hopkins.

Watch me get rejected

4CC/23 seems high

Until then, back to statistics

I got rejected from Wellesley…didn’t go to the “required” interview -____-;;

Wait all the people that got the ID so far are form CC? Jeez… I know Stanford has a history of liking CC, but damn.

they should really accept me. i wont think poorly about tree mascots anymore.

College Confidential, cubbies. Not community college. And why do people make it seem like it’s a bad thing?

Sorry, Missy. I don’t think Wellesley required the interview though. I got in without it.

alright that’s better… umm… i dunno that woulda sorta **** me off right? I worked hard in school and got a job so I could get to a four year college, and they favor those who didn’t do that? I know there are special cases, but I myself ensured that I’d go to a four year college regardless of whatever situation I was in. I saved up enough and made a **** load more investing so that I wouldn’t be in crazy debt after college.

sorry for not liking that community college students get in over regular students?

california is different than other CCs . i went to cc in dallas and in helped my sister in va and it was totally different. in california they hire some decent teachers, ones that teach at UCLA/USC and some that shouldnt be teaching at all. I guess the honors programs here are different. Also, there is this nearly guaranteed method to follow that gets you into UCs/CSUs here. And, the H.S. counselors (from what i heard) promote CC to ppl if they are in less fortunate financial situations. A lot of kids just see it as a cheaper stepping stone to their 4 year degree and not necc. as a last resort b/c they F,ed up in hs.

alTho the CCCs do still have those trade programs and stuff… you will find a lot of motivated and smart ppl at certain CCCs. So in that regard the CCCs arent that bad actually.
Some ccs are just ridiculous tho. I went to a slew of them, and in VA i had a tough time keeping my patience. My sis had a teacher who says because history is the past, EVERYTHING has to have past tense. But the Bill of Rights is a living document, and I wrote in her paper the bill of rights SAYS and he sent her paper back with a 0 on it with big letters PAST TENSE FOR EVERYTHING. That is so finicky. She took it to the ombudsman. That is the crap u get in CC too.
Also, I had a horrible teacher who put words into my mouth this semester and when I tried to say LA is such a big region i only got the words LA IS SUCH and she interjected and said A JUNKY PLACE WITH JUNKY PEOPLE? * im like ? no i didnt say that? I vowed to only take honors courses from then on out.

I think sfurd can see what courses you took, especially if you highlight on your application which are honors courses etc, and it says on your transcript and your recs would say it too. My teacher said he added a sample paragraph from a paper of mine he loved and an A paper from USC and highlighted how mine superseded the SC paper. He gives the same prompts for both classes and same syllabus.

All my honors teachers are/were tenured at UCLA and SC, but do these intro courses for fun because they cant at their home universities or are old and retired. I get a fantastic education from them, prolly better than the local CSU can give for these first two years.

What the heck does “CC” mean…

I guess I’m not one if I don’t know what it is lol

Cubbies, you’re sounding like an elitist. Please don’t for a second think you’re better than CC students. Some are working full time, are full time students, and still manage to get amazing GPAs and do ECs. Get off your high horse.

jgee, officially, i’m pretty sure the tree isn’t technically a mascot… it’s a representation of their true identification as the stanford “cardinal”. i.e. red.

it’s an interesting little tree, that’s for sure.

isnt it a cardinal? that was my state bird. they were angry at the blue jays a lot. Isnt that hopkinss mascot?
it looked awesome in the spring time. red and blue birds.

wait u edited that. hehe. How does a tree represent a bird?

it is cardinal as in the color. if I recall correctly, Stanford’s old mascot was “The Indian” and they decided to change it to something more appropriate.

the “tree” is the unofficial mascot of Stanford, you can see it dancing around at games though!

Guys, do not go to SUnet to check. Earlier today, I received an email from Shawn Abbott asking me for a letter of explanation as to why I tried to access it. I sent a letter of explanation, but I’m traumatized by the thought that I might’ve been one of the lucky 23 but will now be denied because of this. Did anybody else get the letter?

Dude…I requested for one…holy ****, if you got an e-mail then I will get one too…argh!!!

Stupid me for giving in…

community college in california is a joke. that’s why all the UC system kids take their hardest required classes at community college in the summer and then transfer the credits.

there is nothing wrong with being an elitest. at the UC, fine distinctions are made between those who got in directly from high school, and those who transfered in from community college. it’s institutionalized elitism.
