I have a couple of questions about Stanford undergrad students making it to medical schools.

What is the median GPA for a typical premed?

What is their admit success rate, i.e., how many apply each year and how many get in?

Trying to help a friend’s kid decide between Stanford, Harvard and HPME. Knowing some stats will be helpful.

Stanford doesn’t publish that data.

HPME is the quicker and less stressful route to getting an MD. 7 years and just need to maintain a 3.2 with no MCAT. Sounds enticing…

Are finances a concern?

^Thats why HPME is in the mix! Hard to give up despite the other choices.

The kid will be a full pay everywhere.

If you go to Stanford or Harvard you will very likely get into medical school if you put in a reasonable effort, however you may not get into a medical school as highly ranked as NU-Fineberg. On the other hand you will have higher caliber peers at H and S and be forced to challenge yourself and are more likely to reach your full potential.

If you want the easy way to a top 20 med school go to HPME.

If you want to reach your full potential and challenge your self go to H or S. If you have any doubts about a career in Medicine you are better off at H or S.

Quite a few HPME students get complacent and go on probation for falling below 3.2.

What a crock…

If the kid goes to HPME, she’ll become an MD. If she goes to H/S, will she 100%, 90%, or 70% go to medical school? I guess a decision at 22 is better than the one made at 18, for all parties involved except the parents perhaps.

If she is 100% sure about medicine, take HPME and run with it!!

If she is 99% sure, pick H or S.

I like what alwaysleah said.
