Is this madness? I just started a new language tonight.

Related to this, is it true that English is becoming so widespoken (at least in academia and in the business worlds) that unless you will be living in a specific country, basically it’s begun to matter less which langauge you choose to learn?

take dutch for example. Everyone speaks English in holland.

Other countries prefer that you speak their language. And some jobs require languages, like the UN (it requires french, which is the only reason i’m going to learn it in college).

I took French and German freshman year because I was already taking French in middle school and didn’t know if I wanted to switch to German.

I dropped French after freshman year and am now only in German (I’m in German IV, tested out of German III). I would assume a situation like this is okay, but going for multiple years in just one language, then spontaneously quitting it and changing to a new language might not look as good.

P.S. - I thought we were going to be creating our own language as well, otherwise I wouldn’t have clicked on this topic. lol
