Starting a new language?

Hey. I'm currently sort of conflicted on what to do right now.
I took Spanish I in my middle school, and now I'm at Spanish III. I want to switch to Chinese I, instead of taking AP Spanish. I'm already planning on taking 4 APs, and I don't want another one. Plus, Spanish isn't my interest, so I don't think I could do very well in it.
Is it gonna look bad for colleges if I change my language now? :</p>

Dang. I thought some overachieving CCer decided all existing languages were old hat and was setting out to start a new one. Oh well. And yeah, don’t change languages. Colleges like people to finish what they started.

^hahah. Same here.

Some guy actually did it. Esperanto. It’s a pretty easy language.

Maybe you can do both languages?

If I could, I would take Spanish II and French I… but I can’t  my older brother took Spanish and German during high school.

Haha this is exactly what I thought when I saw the title

Ditto. I was just about to point out Esperanto as well.

I like how the reply ratio is 4:1 for Comments Surprised He’s Not Creating New Language : Helpful Comments

This tends to happen a lot. People get caught up on little things and then never answer the questions haha

^^ Speaking of which, let’s invent CCese! Then we can use in our posts here, thus making this forum completely incomprihensible to newbies, thus killing it when we all graduate, thus doing a great service to mankind, thus greatly reducing the number of run-on sentences in society!

OP: Don’t switch to Chinese. It’s really difficult and you’re going to hate it more than Spanish.

“I thought some overachieving CCer decided all existing languages were old hat and was setting out to start a new one.”

lmao, same, for me. now, i’m just too disappointed to actually read the OP’s predicament. what a poor choice of words this thread title was, indeed :|

mosby…brilliant idea ;]

@Mosby: Or we could all just learn Esperanto and accomplish the same thing.

Speaking of which…

Who the heck knows Esperanto, anyways?

Apparently around 100,000 people in Europe and 200,000 people in the world, but this is extrapolation, so it could be entirely wrong.

Sorry for the choice of words.

Should I just drop Spanish? I’m not mandated to take AP Spanish, I just prefer to do a language. I don’t really want another AP. I’m already taking APUSH, AP Bio, AP Calc AB, & Ap English. Plus, I’m gonna have to see my guidance counselor if I want to take more than 3 or 4 APs, and get her consent. >_>

@jhwu: what’s hard about it? Is it the speaking? or the writing? Pronunciation isn’t that much of a problem 'cause I’m part Chinese. lol.

Lojban 10char

obviously. you already took 3 years if you don’t like spanish then dont take it, or just take regular spanish 4 whats the big problem ?

^^^ How much Chinese do you know already then? Learning words at this age makes it a little more difficult, but if you’ve already got a little bit of Chinese it might be easier.

I’m pretty fluent in Canto & beginner-ish in mando.

& there’s no such thing as Spanish IV in my school. AP Spanish is considered Spanish IV.

Can you write? If you can write okay then go ahead and take Chinese…I thought you were an absolute beginner at first. Haha.

I can write like “I eat. I sleep” LOL.
Thanks for the advice!

HAHA. Okay…I dunno, if it’s just Chinese I it shouldn’t be too hard. Best of luck with whatever you choose [:
