I am beginning my junior year of high school and i’m extremely nervous about my schedule and whether it will benefit when applying to college. My freshman year of high school was not so great and i finished the year with 2.6 GPA . My parents transferred me to a different high school that they hoped would benefit me better and I performed a more efficiently with a 3.2 GPA. for both years I took Honors and AP classes; freshman year I took Honors Biology and English and got a C, and sophomore year i took Honors English and AP euro, which i got a B+ in both. I also received a 4 on my AP test at the end of the year. I am also in Key Club currently, and i have over 100+ community service hours from my old school. My junior year schedule is as follows: AP Lang, AP Art History, AP Us History, Chemistry, and Algebra 2. Even if I received a 3.75 GPA or higher, (which I feel i can accomplish this year) Do I still have a chance of being admitted into a good university? My choices are: NYU, Boston University, USC, And UCLA but i’m scared that they might be out of my reach now
Unfortunately you cannot erase your GPAs from previous years, but you’re clearly showing an upward trend in your grades. STUDY STUDY STUDY for the standardized tests (aka SAT, ACT, etc.). Even if you do receive a 3.75 unweighted (key word - unweighted) GPA this year, I don’t think you would have the chances for the schools that you want to apply to senior year. Where do you go to high school? For the UC system in particular, you would need a 3.4 unweighted UC GPA minimum to even be eligible for UC admission. When it comes time for you college application season, I would suggest applying to the University of Arizona, ASU, University of Oregon, University of Washington, University of California - Riverside, University of California - Santa Cruz, and your local community/csu-type colleges.
