I am currently trying to start a club water polo team at my current University. We have a pool, but I’m just not sure how I would go about doing this. Whom would I go to to get this approved, and is there a good chance it would get approved?
Club or intramural? That’s a big difference in student commitment and expense. Both are usually supported by the campus recreation board or department. At UVA for example, it’s called the Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports.
Contact your Office of Student Life (or “Engagement” or “Affairs”…they all seem to have a different name.) That’s where most colleges house clubs. Either that, or (recreational) Athletics since you will need use of the pool. Where I work, we have most of our instructions for forming a club online, so try there if you haven’t already.
I was thinking club, just because I want it to be a bit more serious and be able to compete with other university clubs.
First I would try to get some people interested.
Put up signs, put on FB and whatever tool students are using.
Meanwhile, look at how to form clubs (as mentioned above) and also talk to whoever in the Athletic Depts is in charge of club sports. and whoever schedules pool time.
Also Look on your college for “Club sports” and see if they have a program.
I looked at CWRU and under athletics and they have a Club Sports Program and a handbook.

See if your college has somethign like that.
Ours requires you to be in existence for 2 years before it is an official club sport.
