State Funded Schools (Public Schools)

Do ALL state funded scbools (public schools) give priority to instate students? I was thinking about applying to UT-austin, but im from california. Im wondering how diffcult it would be to get accepted.

What are you hoping to major in? I can give you a better idea of your chances if you can tell me how many hours you have completed, GPA, ECs, etc. Some of the schools/majors are ultra competitive, and generally speaking, UT absolutely favors TX residents - I think the last figure I saw was 95% of the student body are TX residents. A lot of this is due to our top 10% law for Freshman, and they do have diversity on their mind, but even TX CC students are favored in the transfer admissions process, so to come in from OOS you have to have pretty great credentials and it wouldn’t hurt to NOT be trying to get into the most competitive majors.

^ oh ok thanks. I am trying to into their econ program.

Well that will help your chances a bit - COLA is easier to get into than some of the other colleges. Keep your GPA as high as possible (minimum 3.5), take honors classes if possible, etc., and you might have a shot. Is there a school in your current state you’re also looking at, since most state schools do give preference to in-state applicants?
