If I’m ranked top 1000 in the Nation does that count as a Nationally ranked athlete?
Also if top 200 in State am I State ranked athlete?
Not looking to be recruited (obviously), just using as a extracurricular because I heard state/nationally ranked athlete has some weightage.
Aiming for top, elite schools (HYPS, UC Berkeley)
Sport: Tennis
I thought national ranked athletes only had some weight because they would bring a lot of help to the school’s athletic program, like if you were ranked top 1000 in tennis and Harvard’s tennis program sucked, then you being ranked holds weight because you could immediately contribute to the success of their tennis team.
Not sure if you don’t want to be recruited. Top 1000 in the nation sounds good, why don’t you want to be recruited? Maybe play at a lower division like Division III. I’m not an expert on college sports or on your situation, but I thought the whole point of being ranked in a sport was to be recruited so you have a higher chance at admission, especially at the Ivies whose sports programs may not be as good as some of the other schools.
The only way it may hold weight is if you were a team captain or something which demonstrates leadership, at least that’s what I think.
I believe the extra curricular gains no weight with your ranking unless you’re recruited but I may be wrong, it’s obviously more impressive to be a team captain or a 4 year varsity player but I’m not sure if the colleges will give it any special consideration if you’re looking to attend for academics
I don’t think those ranking will do much for your application. Unless you are a recruited athlete, a sport is considered to be a good EC but nothing more.
I guess you technically wouldn’t be lying by saying “nationally ranked”.
State Ranking more likely refers to top 10 or 12 at most.
If – and only if – the school’s Tennis Coach indicates his or her desire to have you on the university’s team, will this be more than a “standard EC.”
Thanks. I was just wondering if this would replace varsity tennis, because I have to quit the team next year because it conflicts with another extracurricular.
