State-Require March ACT 2011

I have a question. On the essay, time ran out as i was writing my last sentence, so the sentence just stops abruptly. Will this harm m score considerably?

@soruli The readers understand that you only have 30 min to write an essay so it shouldn’t

Also, does anyone remember what they put for the last question on the science? It was the fighting scientests and it had the diagram thing…

I put B. That was one of only two choices where the very first gene was non-resistant (as it had to be, since it was talking about Hypothesis 1). As opposed to A, B showed that the resistant trait could be acquired at various points/generations, which agreed with Hypothesis 1. Hypothesis 2 said that the development of such a trait was very rare, which is what diagram A showed (only one branch had the resistant trait, symbolized by a solid circle).

referring to this: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/457347/act%20math%20problem.jpg

you put it in a coordinate system, using the bottom as the x axis and the left side as the y axis. Get the equations as y=2x, and y=-3/4x + 30. Solve, you get like 10.9. Put it into an original for the y value (height of intersection), and you get about 22, so that was the answer.

The hexagon one I can’t remember exactly but you found the 6 equilateral triangles it formed to have sides of 5, 6x5=30.

I believe I got a 36 on the math, didn’t guess on any. Had about 20 min left with those two questions above, and I got them eventually.

Also another question was the circle with the three angles and what they added up to, was 90. They covered a semicircle with their arcs, 180 degrees, then since they are half of their intercepted arcs, 90.

All other math was fairly simple, cept the area of the shaded region, I took a good guess and was fairly confident, and from the appearances here I got it right.

Reading was meh. Pretty easy, maybe aced it.

Science was blech. Hated the Mississippi river part. Ughh I got so lost and mad haha. Guessed a decent amount but I think they were right. Idk last time I thought I did bad on science and got a 35, so that’s up for grabs on my part.

English, no idea. Personally did MUCH better than last time (29 ugh) so I’m hoping a 33, it’s always my weakest.

Estimations for me-
English- 33
Math- 36
Science- 35, Maybe 33
Reading- 35, maybe 36

Composite- estimated 34, possibly 33/35 as well. My last score was a 33.

Also the form was 68F, and essay 12U? I think. I guess about a 8-10 on the writing, always a meh but better this time than last (8).

Overall easy, I tend to do very well on math as my strong suite and that appears to be the difficult part for most here so I got lucky on this one. God I just wish we got scores earlier haha.

what was the shaded area one^?

Gah I can’t quite remember for the life of me. I know I found the area of the square, and dropped a perpendicular to find the triangle next to it and then added them

was it the one with answer 11.2?

Yeah I think so. I remember having an answer as 11.22222222 or something at one point. That was the one I was probably most unsure on. What were the possible answers, do you remember?

they were all between about 8 and 13, and a lot of people picked 12.8

Yeah I remember my answer was just closer to one than the other, I can’t remember which it was though. I’ll see if I do at some point today though

where are you guys from in MI?

Petoskey! What about you?

Jackson for me

Yeah the answer is 8 btw. It’s a trapezoid with medians, my calc teacher showed me  lameee

Bloomfield Hills

The math was pretty tough on this one, at least for me. Since I already got a 32 and figured I got a 30 tops on the math, i decided to just chose A/F for every single answer in the reading. I felt like the science was really easy, possibly got a 36 on it.

@mtv22

I would be highly amused if you got a 32 or higher on the Math section. And an 8 on the Reading.

Did anyone else think that this Science section was the hardest they’d ever seen? I found myself guessing so much!

I’m thinking:
English: 35 (hopefully 36)
Math: 32/33
Reading: 29-31
Science: 26-30

Hopefully my composite is around a 32, though it’s not likely. In all actuality, I probably got a 31. At least it’s up from my 30 from sophomore year.

Also, does anyone know if we’ll be able to check our scores online??

LOL @ mtv

Yeah I hated science as well. I got math down, English and Reading I may have aced but those are always up for grabs on me, and science was a beech

I don’t think you can check online for this one :/

I thought the reading was easy overall, although I remember just ONE question i kind of struggled on, just because the answers given seemed so similar

not sure if anyone will recognize it by my description but it was with the passage about the kids learning english from their parents and the father spoke arabic. and i think it was the second or third question that asked like “what was the father’s main language?” (or something along those lines- I can’t remember for the life of me!) but I do know one of the answers was “His main language was arabic, but he enjoyed occasionally speaking english” and I know that wasn’t the right answer, that’s just the only one I remember. or maybe it is the right answer… ha but does anyone know what I’m talking about??? sorry this was so long hah

chandler22, I remember the question. I think the right answer was “he was proficient at both arabic and english, with careful practice” or something like that. thats what i put
