Statistics or Pre-Calculus

My friend is making his schedule for next year (he will be a Senior) and would like to know if it is better to take AP Statistics or Pre-Calculus. So far, he has taken Alg. 1, Alg. 2, and Geometry.

Definitely pre-calc - Stat is too easy, esp. for colleges, even despite the "AP" tacked onto the end. Or both, if he feels like doing that (I am this year, it's no problem).

Precal .

It depends on what colleges he might apply to, and what he wants to major in. (e.g. An engineering/science major should definitely take Precalculus)

It depends what he's looking--if he wants a better looking course, precalc, but if he wants a better grade, stats...which is a joke.

I posted a simular thread about this subject a few months ago. The general response was that pre-cal was more important than AP stats, even if one wasn't going to major in the maths and sciences. In the end, I decided to take both Pre-Cal and AP Stats for next year. The reason that I decided to take AP stats along with Pre-Cal was because the colleges that I'm looking at will give me credit for AP stats. If I chose to, I may never have to take a math class in college, because AP stats would have taken care of that requirement.

I know for a fact that it is not required to take calc. for any major and to get into any good school. Go look at any of the schools in the top 25 (including the Ivies), it might boost one's chances if they have AP Calc, but it won't result in an automatic rejection if one does not have Calc. Why do you think they offer Stats at the colleges??? They know that not every single person will want to take Calc., or even be required by their major to do so.

pre-cal most assuredly...for any major
you still have to take calc in college anywhere you go (unless its a CC, probably...)
