@Undercrackers Do you know if the College of Chemistry looks at/cares about scores more than, say, the College of letters and sciences? I know that they also recommended applicants to write one of the essays about chemistry, so they obviously care about that too.
I’m OOS, so I am worried that I screwed up my course report since technically my honors classes don’t count because the curriculum isn’t approved by the state of California. However, my schedule is definitely strong either way so I don’t know how much that would affect my overall chances. Does anyone have any insight on how the schedule thingy affects OOS applicants?
My D got Likely letter from UCLA enginnering and got Accepted but she got LOR from CAL. Her friend got early acceptance from CAL but wait listed from UCLA. Both got acepted from SLO, UCD, UCSD and UCI. They both applied for EE and have similar stats. Good luck every one!
@Banker1 That’s interesting - I would be shocked if this girl made that kind of basic mistake, but you never know.
@JuicyMango I don’t know - I think it all depends on who the other CoC applicants are - you’re being compared to them, after all. It’s a small school vs. L&S. The site does say, “Admission to the College of Chemistry is as competitive as admission to the College of Letters and Science.”
My older son got into CAL and was rejected by UCLA and is a golden bear!
My younger son got into CAL, was rejected by UCLA but chose to go to UCSD!
He’s a Mechanical Engineering major. He feel in love with UCSD in the 8th grade and it was his dream school. He surfs in the morning and takes classes in the afternoon! He’s much happier than my golden bear…not as much stress and competition!
Good luck to you! And when you make your final choice…choose the school that you feel happy at because 4 years is a long time with all the pressures of college!
…just my 2 cents!
Well, with the crazy riots at Cal over a conservative speaker, I think that many rational applicants may have reconsidered attending a school where free speech is verboten and may result in physical attack. So it may be easier to get in this year due to the craziness. good luck!
@Bean13 The protests happened months after everyone had applied, so it makes no difference.
@bean13 Cal will be just as competitive this year than ever and conservatives come to Cal daily and speak without issue. Take your false narrative elsewhere.
And by “conservative speaker,” you’re talking about the guy recently dropped by his media outlet for condoning pedophelia, yeah?
Here’s a podcast made by admissions people at USC.

Even though it isn’t UCLA or Cal, I think much of what they said applies to these schools as well. Jump to 12:00 or 12:30 to perhaps get a better understanding of how they select applicants for admission. Hopefully this will be useful/helpful.
@JuicyMango gah big mood i’m in the same boat as you waitlisted at ucla and rejected at usc (poli sci) & REALLY scared for berk :-(( praying for us!!
@thenewstyped Thursday is gonna be a great day for both of us, I just know it! GL
I just got accepted to USC even though it isn’t UCLA (my top) or Berkeley (yet, lol), I’m still glad I got accepted, especially since I was really bummed from being waitlisted at UCLA. If I get into Berkeley, I still want to go because I feel it is going to be cheaper (even though I am paying for housing) and I think it’s better for Science (astrophysics). Can someone tell me if USC or Berkeley are better for science/astrophysics? Thanks!
UCB has a great reputation in physics and is one of the very best!
@uclaparent9 thank you for your input! So, would you say it is better than USC for physics?
^ Definitely yes.
What time on Thursday are decisions released?
definitely in the same boat as a lot of you guys! i got flat out rejected by UCLA and got into UCSD, davis with regents, UCSB and irvine. my uc gpa is 4.44 weighted and i got a 35 on the ACT. i applied mostly for molecular biology/genetics, which i know is competitive at ucla, so i mostly attributed it to that plus the extreme number of applications this year. i was super down about UCLA, but also excited about SD, as it is one of my top choices right now! we shall see what happens on thursday!
@Scholar526 UCB is one of the very best universities in the world for physics! USC is an incredible university and top tier in many areas, but physics isn’t necessarily one of them. UCSB is a top 10 for physics also, and UCLA isn’t far behind…
The allegations about pedophilia were not public when the riots ocurred. They rioted b/c they didn’t agree with his political views. Violence to stop free speech, shame. Nice false narrative though, typical.
I am so glad I found this thread!! I am also waitlisted by UCLA but got into UCSD, UCI (CHP), UCSB (Honors), and Davis. I am hoping I can get into UCB but I heard the competition there is really intense… What are your opinions on this?
