I go to Fordham and am from California, so I won't be going home for Thanksgiving Break seeing as I definitely can't afford it. If my friend were to fly out to spend Thanksgiving with me would I be able to host her? I know regularly I could obtain a guest pass, but seeing as how I myself have to fill out a form to apply for Break-Stay I'm not sure whether guest passes are given out for breaks? The Residence Halls stay open but the University is closed, is Security still on duty? Any help appreciated (:

If you are talking about LC, Yes. Security is always on duty. There are many international students who can’t go home either. You can get a guest pass for your friend. My younger daughter has stayed with her big sister over Christmas break. But you have to do the paperwork ahead of time. And you guest has to have ID.
If you are talking about RH, I have no info on that.

Its the same rule for RH as far as I know. Security is always there. And many times, local kids in your dorm may invite you to stay with them and their families: Long Island and New Jersey for example. International Students dont often mind since its an American tradition. But US students from afar have to learn to deal with this if they arent traveling home. I understand. We did the Thanksgiving travel thing at least 2 years and got soaked by the airlines who jack up airfares awful for that weekend. Its criminal. So I understand wanting to save money and stay in New York.

I would look into making close friends and reaching out to people by informing them you are not going home and see if they make an offer to bring you home with them. If not, then bring your friend in the dorm and find a good restaurant to eat at which is open Thanksgiving Day. Or go see the Macy’s parade!

I also think the RA’s arent required to stay but some do. But the RD’s in the dorms are required to stay, from my recollection. Good luck.

Contact ResLife and you can find out without question what you have to do to stay and if you can host a guest. There is no substitute for getting 100% accurate information directly from the source.

^^^^^ without a doubt! That is ALWAYS the best choice. However, as you well know, some issues are more complex and you dont always get accurate information (financial aid is one such department notorious for WRONG information, or changing goalposts etc). Getting opinions from people who have done this is also helpful.

^^^I agree that is the case for many questions but this seems to be s a simple, fact based request that ResLife should easily be able to answer accurately and completely. It is easy to call, email, or even just walk over to ResLife.

Check with ResLife. I know that have “Break Stay” forms that need to be completed. Those are usually available online and you should receive an email about it when it gets closer to Thanksgiving Break.
