I am going to be a non-matriculated student this summer at the UW and I can only choose between Stevens Court and McCarty hall to stay at. I will be taking CSE 142, CSE 190, MATH 124, PHYS 121 and want to major in computer science or aerospace engineering. This will be my first quarter at college and I want to make sure that I am set up for success. I hear that only certain parts of McCarty are set up for engineering and I will most likely not get into those sections so I am not sure if it would be better for me. Which of them would be better for me? Thank you for the time and consideration in this matter.

I don’t know anything about McCarty, but I lived in Steven’s Court this year. I found it to be a very good study environment because it was always quiet. It was also convenient to have a kitchen, and to have dining options such as 1101 and 2-Convenient so close by. They have a small exercise facility that is never super crowded. It took me about 10 minutes to walk to class every day. Hope this helps!

1101 will be closed this summer…so you may want to go with McCarty. It would be kind of a pain to walk from Steven’s Court to the 8 multiple times per day. However I have never lived in either place so I don’t know a whole ton about them.

Steven’s Court is super-isolated and farther from a lot of areas on campus. And if 1101 is closed over the summer, then it will be a pain to get food (unless you want to go to the Ave every day).

McCarty is better by far (that’s where I’m living right now) in terms of positioning, and in general, it’s a good residence hall.

The big downside is the lack of a personal kitchen, so you’ll have to think about whether you’re likely to cook a lot.
