My daughter was accepted to UMD as a spring 14 admit. After looking at freshman connection or staying home for the fall, she applied to and was accepted to Destination: London. We went down last Friday for accepted student day and met with financial aid. They said we would have the package on the 19th. Nothing today online so I called. Now they're saying the 25th. I think we have to commit by May 1st to not only UMD but the London program as well. $900 non-refundable dollars. In addition we will have less then a week to decide and look for loans. Last year my son went to a different college and I had to do some legwork to get some loans. I'm assuming this will be the same.

Is anyone else waiting to hear from financial aid? I know they don't give much, but I need to know what we're looking at. Testudo just says a aid package is in process.

She was also accepted to:
Temple (27k 13k after grants and scholarships)
Philly U (42k 12k after grants and scholarships)
We also need to let these schools know by May 1st or she loses their offers.

She really likes UMD, but we need answers now.

I check this 10x’s a day. They’re telling me now, that we should know by Friday. So that gives us 5 days to make a decision and apply for loans. And by the way, her prom is Friday, so there goes the weekend.

You clicked on “My Awards”? Because, at the least, you should have gotten some portion of loans for fafsa. If you didn’t fill out your fafsa before a mid-march or so you might have to wait a while. There is also the unpleasant fact that you may not have gotten any aid, however I doubt that seeing that you got grants from other schools.

13accus in regards to your comment that you thought OP might be receiving grants based on her other schools awarding them. My daughter received nothing from Maryland (with the exception of the stafford loans) and grants at almost every one of the 10 other schools she applied to. With 3 in college next year, I thought there might be something from Maryland. Sadly, there was not.

“Thank you for contacting the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA).
Our records indicate that we have received and processed your 2013-2014 FAFSA
and the Parent’s 2012 Federal 1040 Tax Return. Megan’s file is clear.
Destination London students will be awarded Financial-Aid packages starting
April 25th.”

I filed the FAFSA on January 2nd.
So it seems they START awarding financial aid packages on the 25th. Which means I’m back where I started from, having only a couple days to apply for loans. This is insane.

UM Grant
“To be considered for a need-based university grant, undergraduate students must demonstrate high financial need, submit a FAFSA by UM’s Priority Deadline, and meet other criteria defined by the university’s packaging policy.”

Excuse me if am mistaken, but I seem to remember you were deciding between UMBC and UMD? If so, glad to see you have decided to become part of terp nation!

If it wasn’t you who I talked to months ago, again, I apologize. :)
