where did you hear that?

I heard we’re going to find out on Thursday from an admissions rep who went to my friend’s school. I’m assuming that’s going to be online and maybe they’ll mail the letters Monday.

All this different information is about to make me go crazy! I’ll just be hoping for a Pin e-mail tomorrow when I check after school.

Aah so much conflicting information!
) : Let’s keep our fingers crossed for something in the mail tomorrow/Wednesday, and if not, just wait for Monday.

I really wanted to know THIS week! Please please please Duke!

I wouldn’t be surprised if they uploaded decisions during Duke’s sweet sixteen game. Think about it, there aren’t going to be any Duke students on Duke’s servers during that time period (unless Duke uses a completely independent server, then this is all wrong). I really wanna hear this week…I’m nervous.

And also, srrinath, I can’t believe that you got rejected by UChicago :(. You deserved to get in… Whatever, hopefully both of us get some positive results from Duke…

I doubt I’ll hear anything good from Duke but good luck to you!

And I’d agree with you about Duke students not being on the servers. Chicago used similar logic when releasing its ID decisions.

As for the speculation over decisions this week, it would be nice if someone with an authoritative source of information could confirm/deny.

We have all gone nuts.

You can be assured of one thing… they’re doing their best to get the decisions finalized/sent out. I’m sure they want to get them out ASAP.

im going to kill whoever is giving us false information :(

Remember that Duke had more applicants this year. Logically it should take the admissions staff longer to carefully process all of the applications. They are probably working harder than we imagine, drinking lots of coffee, and hoping to complete the process ASAP! The committee discussions are time consuming.

You’d think that but Chicago released its decisions 11 days early despite a 44% increase in RD apps (not to mention the tons of deferred EA apps). I don’t think Duke’s relatively smaller increase will lead to a significant delay.

So are we not expecting decisions this week?

I think you shouldn’t rule it out. There’s a possibility that we’ll get the emails tomorrow and the decision on Friday.

srrinath:

I don’t think that Duke’s increased application numbers will lead to a significant delay either. If, however, you listen to Guttentag’s interview, you will understand why the process could take a few days longer than last year. I don’t know how involved Chicago’s committee reviews are, but if they are like Duke’s reviews it could take them more time than past years theoretically. The Chicago admissions staff may have hired more folks to speed up the process…idk.

I think the email will come tomorrow? Maybe? Hopefully? If they’re doing the same thing as last year, I’m sure it will come tomorrow.

I’m dying to know decisions, but I’m also really dreading it…At least for now I can still hang on to that bit of hope of getting into Duke and my other reaches, but after decisions are out, I most likely won’t even be able to do that T_T

I think many of us share those sentiments.

i can’t check my email at school…nothing yet?

Nope. Nothing yet!

Here is the email my friend received from Duke about a week ago. It is a mystery that she is the only one who got it, I just wanted to post it here and let you guys know.

Dear Duke University Class of 2014 Applicant,

We are pleased and honored that you have chosen to apply to Duke University Class of 2014.Our most important work of the year almost came to an end, as we spent much of the winter and early spring reading your application and learning more about you and the other candidates who have included Duke among their college choices.

We are very aware of the effort you put into preparing your application and in arranging to have all your application materials sent to us, and we understand as well the effort you put into your high school career to enable you to move on to college. We know none of this is easy and we appreciate and acknowledge your hard work. With that in mind, we want you to know we read your application as thoughtfully and thoroughly as we could, and we considered carefully the talents and personal qualities that you would bring to the college you chose. As we considered your candidacy, we looked for reasons to offer you admission-not for reasons to say no.

Please note though that this year, we observed a drastic change in the number of applicants and thus our decision release date is presently scheduled for Monday, March 29th. It is our office’s policy to not share admissions decisions with anyone prior to our the admission decision release date and thus we ask for your patience as we finalize our decisions on the applications.

You have very best wishes from all the members of the Duke Admissions.

Sincerely,

Duke University
