<p>Getting an interview is linked to having an alum who is willing to do it, and who lives within a reasonable distance; it has nothing to do with your last name. Columbia alums are often lawyers, doctors, and other very high-level professionals, who do not have the time to do one-hour-per-applicant-interviews. It's not important to have an interview, and many alums will tell you that no-one who they ever interviewed was ever accepted to Columbia.
