Still undecided...HPMS

Hmmm... You still did not eliminate Princeton? ;)

Well, they say that Computer Science in Stanford is too theoretical and kind of booooring... You may check for yourself, whether it rocks your boat, they have some CS lectures online.

As for elitism and eating clubs in Princeton, my son just ignores them (well, he is not sure the elitism even exists, but if it exists, he never noticed that). He was inside an eating club maybe 2 or 3 times in his 2 years in Princeton, did not care about them, chose a regular dining option for his Junior year. So, if that is your main concern about Pton, just remember you will have a choice...

Oh, you still have more that two hours to decide. Just eliminate Harvard (because of proximity to home) and drop a coin to decide between P and S :D

We live in the Boston suburbs too; we told our son that if he went to school at Harvard or MIT we wouldn't expect to see him any more than we do our son at Columbia, which is a bit less than once a month between his trips at vacations and our trips down there. And he decided to stay in town and go to Harvard, which will make our trips in to see him all the easier :)

A bit less than once a month? We live 30 minutes walk away from S's House and we don't get to see him more than once a month!

Well, to be honest, we live 10 minutes away from DS's dorm, and we did not see him once a month his Freshman year. No did we expect to see him often; actualy, he applied to Pton only after we told him that he will NOT be expected to come home more often than his brother (the bro's college is in WI). :D This year, he drops in more often, but it's entirely up to him... Usually we just get a weekly phone call assuring us that he is alive and well.

But I guess, it's too late for Sheldon to ask his parents to swear they will not make him come home on weekends if he chooses H?

Kid goes off to school in September.
October is parent's weekend, we go see him.
November is Thanksgiving. (and columbia also gets off Mon and Tues in early November for election day, maybe only even numbered years?)
December-Jan home for vacation.
Feb we go see kid.
March is spring break.
in May he is home so we only miss April during the school year.
Of course he then goes back to NY for much of the summer but we see him for family vacation in July and he is home for a bit in late August.

Put the names in a hat. Pick one. Problem solved in time to meet the post office deadline.

Wow, Aedar, that's more than I saw my kids when they were living home in high school! ;)

Congratulations on the decision!

I disappointed to hear MIT is now out of the running (I go there), but I can see the reasoning behind the decision. I live 3 hours away and go home a total of 2 weeks a year (yeah, I stay at MIT for the summer for research), but I definitely know people who see their parents a whole lot more if they live close, and I would be annoyed if my parents stopped up in Boston more than 2 or 3 times a year.

so what's the verdict sheldon?

i shall let you know in 10 minutes lol

LOL this is really mean, I open this thread thinking "which school is it going to be, finally, a decision", and then it says wait 10 more minutes...

You've probably already made your decision, but...regarding music at Stanford and later east coast connections....read about:
MAHAN ESFAHANI, LONGY SCHOOL OF MUSIC (a recent Stanford alum) at:

http://www.creativity-found.org/our_legacy.php

and it's not here yet.... the decision please

I ruled out Princeton with about half an hour to go, and since Harvard + Stanford were both online, my parents did not have to go to the post office.

At 11:59 EST I clicked "Accept Stanford", entered the payment info, and was just about to hit "Finalize Transaction" when I started to have second thoughts. I should have clicked it, as for the next three hours I fell into another pit of indecision, with my dad pushing for Harvard (my parents don't really want me to go far away).

To make a long story short, I clicked "accept harvard" at 3 am. I don't know if it was the right choice, and I'm still having second thoughts/pangs of regret.

But thank you parents, for all the wisdom and advice.

Sheldon, best of luck to you at Harvard. I'm sure you will be happy and intellectually engaged. I'm also betting that you will be glad of your decision.

Sheldon, Congrats. I think you would have been happy at any of your choices. It was probably nice to hear that your FA truly wanted you close by.

Sheldon, you could not have made a wrong decision with these choices. Not that it was easy to pick! At Harvard you'll meet accomplished, hugely talented people - and live in probably the best student city in America. So kick back and enjoy the summer & good luck next year -- but once you settle in, do let us know how you like Harvard, OK?

Any of your options would have been a good one, Sheldon, but Harvard certainly has its appeal -- with all its history, its Boston-area location, and the very interesting and talented people it attracts. Come back and tell us how you're doing there.

Yes, congrats on making a tough decision. Did you work out an understanding with your parents about how often they should expect to see you?
