I was wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me…
I applied as an undergraduate transfer with a 60+ credits in November for Fall 2018 from a Florida college, and still have not gotten a decision. My initial transcripts have already been received and myUCF has been updated for quite some time now, other than my residency status determination.
I got accepted into my back up school (USF) a week after I applied in January. I applied a lot earlier than USF, so I am getting a little frustrated since I have seen many people with a decision from admissions for Fall. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with any information or any advice since the counselors I have spoken with have little to no interest when I have called to ask about my application.
@avh123
When you call admissions, make sure you get beyond whoever picks up the phone initially. These are usually student employees and are the gatekeepers…lol. Because of its size, admisions at this time is overwhelmingly busy.
You may need to be a little assertive (very) and become a squeaky wheel.
Good luck and charge on!
@ufmomfriend
Thank you!
How would you go about this? Like, who would you ask for when calling? Everytime I’ve called they’re pretty dismissive and I have a hard time being assertive, so I’m a bit nervous on what to say haha.
@avh123 I am also in the same boat as you, I will be graduating with 60 credit hours from one of UCF directconnect state colleges. I applied mid-December and have had no update, everything was submitted on time except residency states. I have called several times and sent emails to the admissions office but like you said they were very dismissive. Maybe my SAT is delaying the decisions as it is quite low, however, I did send in 3 recommendation letters one being from my college professor, teacher, and counselor.
Go to this page and scroll down to get some names. Pick a person, call and ask for them by name. I think 9 am is a good time…never at lunch and not late in the afternoon. If they tell you that person is not available, then ask for any director because you are in a time crunch to accept an admission because you need to start looking for housing. Make it clear that ucf is your first choice and dream school, yadda,yadda,yadda…see what I mean…and you really NEED to speak to someone who can help you.
I would call for my kids because I think they were less likely to blow me off, but understand that may not be possible for you because you are probably at least 18…they cannot give out much info to parents at that point.
Be persistent if necessary. You may end up on hold…be patient.
I wish you luck and please let us know if it works
@ufmomfriend
Thanks sooo much for your help! I called and got really lucky with a really helpful, kind, and proactive advisor!! She actually said the reason my application hasn’t been updating was because my some of my residency information has been missing (which goes to shows how dismissive some of the counselors can be, because I have been on the phone with them many times about my application and had no idea I was missing this)
Hopefully this gets things going and can get a admission decision soon :(!
@jjay43
This waiting game sucks! If you’re absolutely positive you are not missing any information, I would do what @ufmomfriend suggested. I called and was going to do what she suggested, until luckily I got a advisor that actually was very helpful. When I called they said I was missing something from my residency papers, but that was the first I heard of this after talking to many different advisors about the status of my application
@jjay43
I read online that residency isn’t a problem until it comes down to paying tuition, but the advisor thinks that might be why I haven’t heard from admissions so she told me she was gonna push my info through.
The advisor just answered, I had to go through the automated messages and pressed the number for residency and waited until the message ended and stayed on the line for an advisor!! Let me know what they tell you when you call
@avh123 Please let me know if the residency was the reason you haven’t received a decision. I’ve been desperately waiting for them to respond and still haven’t heard anything.
@avh123 Congratulation on your decision! I called them this morning and they told me that I should send them in just in case. Did you send it to them through email or post? if email, which one did you use and how long did it take for you to hear back?
@jjay43 I called and when they told me I was missing residency, the counselor waited for me to email my passport while I was on the phone until she received it and forwarded it herself to the correct department. I received an email from residency asking for missing form Tuesday AM and sent it within the hour & received a decision the next day. I really think it was the counselor that helped the process, she was incredibly helpful.
@avh123
You did it all yourself!! But if you have any other questions that a mom of 2 ucf students can answer, just ask. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll let you know
