Is anyone out there still waiting for a decision?....the portal has been going blank and then a message saying I will have a decision by April 1...nothing in the mail....seems I am the only one who doesn't have an answer....going out to California to decide between UCLA, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara, but Tulane was my top choice East Coast option. Guess not looking too good for Tulane....California here I come!

There are a number of people waiting to get a decision, it is not April 1 yet. FYI, New Orleans is not on the “East Coast”.

I am still waiting too! :(

my daughter stilllll waiting

I’m still waiting :(

okay fallenchemist…no need to get snippy…I was simply dividing the country into everything somewhat East and California, because I applied to nothing in the middle…my apologies…shall I correct it and say “Southern”…happy to go out to CA…seems the people are much more chill than you are…

OK Singita. I get it. I am from California. There is California and everything else is East Coast. Welcome to California!

Exactly Socamom…even though I am from the East Coast, I love CA and am soooo happy to have some good choices out there…and you are right…there is CA and the rest of the country…since you are from there…any opinions on the three schools?

My daughter got into UCSB, UCSD and UCDavis. We hear about Berkeley tomorrow. When all is said and done, I prefer Tulane, even though these other schools have higher rankings. Classes will be bigger, you run the risk of taking more than 4 years to graduate, especially if you change majors. California’s funding of education has been in serious peril for the past few years and I am afraid of how this will affect access to resources, such as support staff. I know UCSD has the reputation of being a school for Asian Pre-Meds, and when we visited there the stereotype seemed to ring a bit true. On the other hand, UC Santa Barbara is absolutely gorgeous. My daughter loved Davis, because it has a strong science focus, but it seemed a bit more laid back. We live in Claremont and she is used to the college-town kind of feel, which is certainly the case at Davis.

socamom…congrats to your daughter…she has some great choices…is she going to attend Tulane…funny thing…right after Katrina, it was so much easier to get into…they recruited heavily…now again, it is so popular…it is a great school…I attended the Chancellor’s reception in NY for UCSB and I was so impressed…they really made it seem like they gave the students alot of attention and made it seem that, even though the school is large, it had more of a family vibe, and they really cared about the students. Heard the same about UCSD and the pre-med, even though I am thinking about pre-med. I will have to make up my mind soon and am hoping that once I am on the campus, I will know which one is right for me…I also love to surf so UCSB or UCSD seem perfect for that…either way, as with your daughter, there are some great choices there!

Wow. Sorry you took it that way. I know the internet lacks nuance, but yeesh. Good luck in California.
